chesil, 10/12/11

after saturdays success , hartley was chamming at the bit to get out and so along with a mate of his (jason) we hit, more or less, the landing craft mark at about 6pm & high tide,
the wind was quite strong but at our backs from the s/e ? ish. and so armed with squid and blk lug over the bank we trudged.
once on the seaward side things didn't look that promising , though the wind was behind us and the wave bouys data gave waves of under 1 meter they'rre a little offshore and don't account for groundswell..
2-3m breakers pounding the beach and at high water some breaking over the tide ridge and driveing on up the beach.
hence we set up 1/2 way up the bank above the last storm ridge a good 20 yards back and 20ft up from any damp shingle.

rigs were baited and cast forth, 150grm grips were holding for me,
hartley had problems with getting his line burried from the off as did jason though less so.
as expected given the conditions the fishing was slow i thought i saw the odd bite but it was a job to tell , might even have had a small fish on at one point but it went light as i drew in to the breakers.
there were one or 2 other hardy souls down there toughing it out in hope, but even i found the surf a little intimidateing and after hartley had given up after looseing a few rigs to the shingle, despite my catching them back for him. he packed up and quit. jason had had enough too even though the surf was dropping as the tide started to ebb.
we had a natter to the angler next to us, from bath? who was fishing a nice pair of shimano rods before we left he had a good sized pollock on the beach showing that there were fish out there to be had .
we quit the beach at 10pm and didn't feel like decamping to the pleasure peir or preston beach on a dropping tide.
