| Back on the shingle Going to start off with a bit of a rant . Happily fishing away when I noticed some extremly bright lights searching around behind the shingle bank. I thought that this was the Police looking for someone/something. ![]() About five minutes later there were two people standing on top of the shingle shining the lights up and down the beach and in the water (these lights were lighting up a good 250 yards) when after a couple of minutes they went back down the mound only to return five minutes later a lot closer to me and walked down to the shore line dumped their gear and lit up the whole beach and water again. They set up and didn't turn off these lights until day break. A couple of times I was close to going and stuffing these lights up their nostrils but thought better of it. Why do people need such bright lights on a beach, these would of given the lamp I use for shooting a run for its money no problem and would not looked out of place strapped to a Sea King. If they need so much light why not just fish during the day and not pee other people off around them. Idiots. Right Rant over, back to the fishing. Myself and two others went back up to Chesil on Thursday night after some more coddies. From the off in was doggies, Pout, Poor cod and Yting. As the night went on I had the first Cod of about 2lbs, followed an hour later by one of 5lbs 2oz. By this time I was giving the other two lads a bit of stick when the youngest one of our group came over and asked me to weigh a Cod for him, 5lbs 10oz followed by me now getting stick about biggest fish .![]() I was chuffed for him as this was his first shore caught Cod even though I was getting grief lol. It was pretty much the same but with more dogfish when I saw one of my rods arch round and start thumping. I grabbed the rod I had a nice little scrap with this fellow. ![]() 7lbs 15oz. Sorry about the smug look but I was giving the lad stick about catching proper Cod lol. About twenty minutes later the search and rescue team turned up as mentioned above and the bites dried up. I did have three Pollock later in the morning with the biggest being 1lbs 12oz which I was pleased with as I have not had one this year so some bonus points as well. ![]() ![]() That was that, we packed up and stopped off at Eype to have a breakfast then home. All the best, Chop __________________ You should forgive your enemies, but only after you’ve taken the shot. |

| Re: Back on the shingle Your story about the bright lights is an interesting one. A good mate of mine (alas, now no longer with us) used to love going night fishing on his own. (He said it was the only time he was truly at peace with himself and the world.) But being an older lad, he was always wary of some thug waylaying him and nicking his gear. So to reduce the risk of that happening he would take two powerful lamps with him. He'd put one on the beach about 25yards away from where he was fishing, and the other he'd have on his person. Both were switched on all the time - he reckoned that to the onlooker it would seem there were two people fishing and thus make a mugging less likely. Kind regards. __________________ Kissin' don't last! Fishin' do. |

| Re: Back on the shingle Can tell I'm still half asleep? It was Friday night we went up D'oh lol. Dadwood thats a fair point if your fishing places that are out of the way, but Chesil at this time of year normally has loads of people fishing it. This location had probably 15 other people fishing. More to the point I bet your friend didn't walk up and down lighting the whole beach and water up with other people fishing either.
