Talking Abbotsbury 19th October 2011

Firstly my apologies for the lack of photos , but numpty at home likes to take random pics of the kids and kill the batteries !

Went down digging with Danny on Tuesday in an attempt to get 100 fresh lug each for our planned Weds trip to Chesil , and even though Somebody got the low tide time wrong ( i won't mention Dannys name ) we managed to dig with relative ease ..
Wednesday saw Danny turn up at the door with the wind howling and the rain shooting down in sporadic bursts - a quick look out the window and we convinced ourselves that it would be gone in an hour

Arrived at Abbotsbury and headed away from the main beach up past the cottages and got set up before dark ( around 6.45 i guess ).
Baits were fresh outs, dirty squid, cuttle, mackerel and sandeel and rigs were mainly 2 hook rigs for the worm and single long range rigs with either sandeel or wrap cocktails..
First cast on the sandell resulted in a couple of good pulls , weight all the way to the surf edge and then nothing !! elastic left - pennel hooks avoided and 2 minute old sandeel vanished ! This happened exactly the same very next cast ( and infact throughout the whole night with various baits ) .
Cuttlefish - poor cod nailed on the retrieve , a pout with half its face chewed off ( more likely a strap eel i think ) and fish baits being mashed only to find nothing when you wound in ..
First fish resulted in a dog for me , followed by a lovely whiting of just under a pound for Danny .... to be folloewd by 2 hours of chaos as doggy after doggy, pout, poor cod and whiting hit every bait that hit the water...
My heart went when i pulled in a plump fish only for it to be a 33cm Pout - biggest bugger ive had off the shore i reckon ..
The weather was spot on - a slight swell, mostly no moon and winds from the North West - a bit of a chill but we were running around dealing with fish non stop most of the night ..
No codling showed but after recent trips to one fish Pagham and Milford we were more than happy with the session ..
In all i had 9 dogs, 1 jumbo pout , 1 pout , 2 poor cod and 5 whiting - biggest on the last cast at 1lb 2 oz ..
Danny had poor cod, 4 or five whiting , probably 9 or 10 dogs too so plenty for tea and a chance for him to test his newly purchased supercast ..
Brilliant session after a crappy Autumn , loads of action , hot drinks , shooting stars and great company as usual ( and no he never shut his eyes once apart from the drive home ) ..
