| Yearly I.O.W trip. 1wk Yarmouth boathouse So at long last i get to fish the sea again. Last time was the Med on me summer Hols. Really gets me down living 50 miles from the coast, so i really look forward to this trip.Basically this is my only trip of the year so alot of planning has gone into it. The Plan: (sat 15th oct for 1 wk fishing a mix of night and day tides) I'll be fishing 3 rods for Bass (and i'll also be taking a fly rod and my lure rod just in case there's windfree conditions.) 2 Rods will be fished close in to the old pier structure. One with a popped up dead bait the other with a live bait that i'll catch with my 3rd rod. I'll be using different Tactics with the live bait in-so-much-as i've never managed to get the bait out more than 10-20 yrds for obvious casting reasons. This time i'll be using my third rod as a tram line for the livebait rod. I'm gunna Cast the beachcaster out 150yds with a 6oz gripper with no terminal tackle on. Get a Really tight line a slide a small water balloon with the livebait terminal tackle underneath. This should enable me to get the livebait out 50-60yds. The rig i'm using is an updated version of the washing line rig and i'm going to fish it 2ft from the bottom with the polyball flying loose between the lead link (8oz cone) and the paternoster. The rig itself will be the usual live bait rig where a small hook will be attatched to a larger one but this time i'll be using a pennel system hooking the bait tail first and securing with elastic bands. Hopefully this will enable the head first tendancies of the bass take to enable a better hook-up senario. The second rod will be fished in the usual 20yrds out deadbait popped up on a pennel rig.5oz gripper lead. The usual senario. The 3rd rod will be used to scratch for live bait and will be fished with a long range short snooded paternoster, clipped up and down with 1/0 aberdeens and ragworm bait. I should get plenty of pout, wrasse pollock and whiting on this so should cut down the bait costs for deadbaits. So here's hoping for the weather/tide conditions and some good fishing ![]() Let's face it if all else fails i can always just get pissed I'll write a full report when i get back in a weeks time ![]() __________________ I'D RATHER HAVE A BOTTLE IN FRONT OF ME THAN A FRONTAL LABOTOMY |

| Re: Yearly I.O.W trip. 1wk Yarmouth boathouse Best of luck! I want to get over the I.o.W myself at some time. Which shouldn't really be a problem, as I can bloody well see it when i fish! It's the more the whole logistics and knowing where fishes well, preferably within a short'ish walk from mainline transport. That would be if such a thing existed there. Not knocking the place, as I love it to bits! When you heading back? More importantly, which route? If you travelling via Pompey, I'll try and make it down to say hello as you pass through. ![]() __________________ -- Bart Rank : Rod Rattling Rookie! Bait Bung'ing Beginner! | Re: Yearly I.O.W trip. 1wk Yarmouth boathouse Well that's me. Back from the good ol Isle o wight after my week down there with my wife and daughter. Well what can i say: (Cuckoo was spot-on with his warning) The week started badly and got worse and worse . A huge drop in temperature didnt help the small tides and mill pond type conditions. Full moon at night and bright sun during the day.I ended up just using scratching rigs for just anything ANYTHING ANYTHING![]() Well here's the report. We arrived Saturday about 13.45. The tide was 14.07 and the sun was out so having missed most of the flood i decided to go fetch my bait that i had pre-ordered from the tackle shop in Freshwater. Unfortunately the shop closed at 15.00 and i arrived 10 mins.too late, so it was a journey into Newport to Scotties Tackle for bait for the night session. Saturday night. Tide none 02.17 wind.none. moon.full Fished for about 4 hours from 22.00 for 1 pollock for about a pound and a small wrasse. ![]() Sunday: Fished the flood of the afternoon tide and the 2 hours after high for 2 tiny wrasse. This went on for the week with my best fish of the week coming at mid afternoon on wednesday. I tried everthing in my armoury to entice some better fish but you just knew the conditions were against you. Tried: Squid fished pennel. frozen Black Lug. Ragworm. Livebait (wrasse).Mackerel. Spanish Mackerel and even mussels from the groine. And like i said i ended up just scratching for Anything. Highlight of the week was: ![]() Lowlight of the week was the massive bite i got about 16.00 on pennel fished mini calamariis only to hit into nothing but weed and to find that i had been bitten through by a proper fish. Other lowlights included the lost gear, the failure to hold bottom on the ebb, the masses of weed and the breaking of the 2 handles of my 2 carp reels that i was using with my bass rods ![]() The best laid plans surely did go to waste but i will not be beaten by conditions and am returning to the same accomadation and the same spot for two weeks in the summer. GLUTTON FOR PUNISHMENT ![]() Still i did have a nice holiday and it sure beat driving my bus round Edinburgh for another week. And i did enjoy the getting pissed part __________________ I'D RATHER HAVE A BOTTLE IN FRONT OF ME THAN A FRONTAL LABOTOMY |
