mulberry bognor report.

Hi All,

Arrived at the mulberry wreck in bognor regis about 6.45 and HT was at 9.47
by the time i set up it was around 7.15.

So both rods out one with a pulley rig loaded with lug and whole squid hopeing that mr cod will have a feast!! and the other a 2up 1down flapper with lug tipped with squid and strips of makeral for whatever was about.
So the pulley i slung out about 100yds and the flapper i droped just beside the wreck. About half hour later a nice litttle tap on my flapper which i hit in to nothing
So rebaited and back out, 5 mins of it being in another tap,hit it this time fish on felt ok but i was useing my light bass rod as i fancied a decent fight.
I got it just to the edge and arghhhhhhhhhhh fish off which was annoying.
So same again baited, back out within the 6 hours i was there i landed 3 wrasse of which they were all a good size one just being over a pound or so. Had shed loads of bite so was constantly busy, just wasnt hooking them all. The pulley produced nothing but hey next time.
But overall the weather was great and the fishing was fun. role on wednesday as im off work and out again

Andy

That's a nice report Andy. Getting lots of knocks but not hooking them is frustrating at the best of times. There can be so many reasons why we miss them. I sit and wonder; is the hook too large? Is the bait hanging off the hook too far? Am I striking too early? Has the hook lost its sharpness? Doh! So many possibilities. But it keeps us thinking till next time. Kind regards.

Hi Browners,

wednesday tide is looking very good, do you have any advice on fishing around that area? Maybe any tips for the better fish around there or just what im doing.
I did a night at pagham last week next to the pipe, only managed a doggy. I heard the cod are showing down there on the bigger tides but there being taken at 150+yds.

pagham been fishing well for me all year . had 8 spieces down there the other night . but still no cod for me this year .

try fishing smaller hooks 1s or 4s , what you need to do is leave a tag of about 10mm on your hook knot this will help keep your bait from sliding down over your hook point . try also off setting your hooks slightly . also some of the missed bites you were getting might of been missed due to , to longer hook links . try short ones around 10 inches or so if your not cliping down . always match the hook size to the bait you using aswell . hope this helps a little

Re: mulberry bognor report.

Sounds like you had a busy night fella!!!! I get hacked of when I see bites but they fail to throw out fish!! You sure they wernt crab??
Like said above try dropping down to a size 4 hook, you can get some nice offset steel ones made by kamasan in a 4 and a 6, I use them and I find they are good. I used to use fine wire hooks but I found that if you got a doggie the damn things would bend straight when trying to get it out of the skin!!!

Tight lines

Re: mulberry bognor report.

Sounds like you enjoyed the fishing, thats what its all about.
I try the pulley pennel everytime I fish but never get that big one. Maybe one day it will happen, just have to keep trying.
all the best.
