| Just a quick round up for now, more detail and pics to follow. Unsure if I going to stay awake and head back out for the morning tide too! ![]() If I crash and sleep... Full report waits... If I going to fish the morning tide... It'll help keep me awake writing it. On to the quick and dirty version, After a quick solo practice put up/take down of mate's Bivvy in backgarden, it was off to Eastney for my first ever night fishing solo! ![]() Only the 1 proper fish caught, a fair few vegetarian ones too (weed). So no blank! ![]() Everything went more or less as well as could be expected, some better and some worse bits... More details and pics(s) in full report to follow. ![]() __________________ -- Bart Rank : Rod Rattling Rookie! Bait Bung'ing Beginner! | Re: 07/10/2011 My First ever solo night fish! ![]() I never actually slept in the end.... Went out for the next high tide again! Then been suffering from sleep deprivation (came so close so many times to falling asleep when crashed on the beach on Sat afternoon), Karma/Life paying me back for getting so much fishing in such a short spell... and another 'ninja' trip last night!.... 'Full' reports on all to follow soon.... __________________ -- Bart Rank : Rod Rattling Rookie! Bait Bung'ing Beginner! Fish caught '12 : Forum Members met : chris.oldgit |

| Re: 07/10/2011 My First ever solo night fish! Time to add some more info and a few pics! ![]() After treating myself to a Mustad Rod Holdall (I cannot recommend it enough, but that can wait until later...), and head torch, and robbing various bits and bobs from various people.... Mate's Bivvy, Tripod (still on perma loan now! I packed all my gear up, '2x Rods+Reels, Bivvy, Tripod, Tackle/Weights, flask, extra jumper just in case, rags, knife and head torch.' All stuffed into afore mentioned Holdall and backpack. Strolled on down the tackle shop for bait around mid afternoon, after previous trip where some slipper limpets came in on weed and got used as bait, I thought I'd treat myself to a packet of limpet and "make it up to a tenner"s worth of rag. As the limpet was defrosting, it was keeping my Rag cool perfectly. So.... the time came.... It was time to leave for my first ever solo night trip! Got on the bus, which due to new holdall was a lot easier than a previous trip with just one Rod/Tripod combo, had to start removing a layer or 2 due to the heat... Eventually.... Bus goes a really long way around a short trip... I get to my stop! So here goes..... Load myself up with a bag on each shoulder, and off we stroll to where I want to fish! "Ah.. seems there's a few others down here tonight.." runs through my mind as I see a few head torches down by the waters edge... ..... ............ .................... FFS! HOW MANY!!!!! is the next thought! As I found on the return trip on the Saturday (see other report) there was a competition on down there. The last thing I need when I've got a good 35-45min fully laden walk home later, is to now have hike down the seafront to find the other end and hopefully find somewhere I want to fish. But hey... eventually.... after quite some walk and going way further down than I wanted to, I find the other end! So, down the beach I head and start pitching camp! ![]() First things first, wasn't too windy yet, I was still well warm, so a line went out first rather than Bivvy going up. Pitched Bivvy, rigged and whacked out other Rod. After a couple of small nibbles, and a few loads of weed, I started to wonder..... "My first ever night trip AND my first (since returning to fishing) blank.... Talk about up's and down's!" Then after watching one of my Rods sway with that usual weed motion, I started the haul in..... Upon breaking the surf... "Oooh! was the a glint there in the light.... ... Nah.... ............ Then again! Yay I'm in!" After removing it's weed wig, I found ![]() To put some perspective in, the blue at the top is my Holdall which is about an inch wider than a sheet of A4 paper. How it managed to get it's mouth around the hook and bait quite suprised me. It was quite a squeeze to try and get back out again, as I could barely see inside it's mouth! A few more bites, a load more weed.... some of which was on my line! Gazing up in to sky... ![]() I'm not the best photographer, esp with a phone. It came to thoughts of packing up, as it a getting quite a hike from base camp to surf for casting. Everything was neatly stashed, usual blue carrier bag from tackle shop used as rubbish bag. ![]() Back to 1 on each shoulder, back up the beach and the long walk home started....... By gawd that almost killed me! Carrying a lot of gear a short distance isn't too bad, but when your plodding along past a few stragglers on the way home from a Friday night out it's a killer! Eventually made it home, had coffee, smoke, and then that's where this thread started.... ![]() My confidence levels in my own competence have now been boosted greatly. Not just on solo or/and night, but across the whole board. __________________ -- Bart Rank : Rod Rattling Rookie! Bait Bung'ing Beginner! Fish caught '12 : Forum Members met : chris.oldgit |

| Re: 07/10/2011 My First ever solo night fish! Well done mate, its a real buzz when you start getting fish on "solo" trips ain`t it, you against nature, the hunter gatherer instinct kicking in lol. Fishing solo you will learn a lot quicker as you have no one there to help so you are forced to figure things out Top effort, look forward to seeing some more fish in the future Tight Lines Joe __________________ Sea 2012- 5brd rockling, whiting, LS Dogfish,Bass,Eel,Flounder F/W 2012- Catfish(16.5lb), Carp,Tench LITTER IS JUST LAZINESS!! |
