| Folkestone Warren 1st Oct I have been dying to get out fishing this leave but haven't had a chance. It has been driving me nuts! I had a fire fighting course all last week then the gardening needed doing. The misses finally took pity on me and suggested camping and fishing at the warren at 4pm Saturday afternoon. I had the tent pitched and was fishing by 6pm! The fishing wasn't up to much. I wasn't expecting it to be either. I just wanted to get out for a few hours with my 6 yr old boy Matthew. We fished the second apron which is quite a walk from the campsite. I had my new beta box with the breakaway back rack which I wanted to try out so off we set. I bent down along the way and the box opened spilling my flask out and dented the lid and split the plastic lining, lucky it wasn't a reel that came flying out! I'm going to get the cam lock! We made it to the second apron where we set up two rods. The tide was ebbing so I didn't expect much. I used a two hook flapper with lug and squid and a pulley pennel with squid and mackerel. We tried a plug around the rocks but didn't get anything. I gave up with that as the light was fading and we had to sort out dinner. We cooked some sausages on a disposable BBQ. We fished until 10pm and all we managed was a dogfish and a pin whiting! It was good fun all the same. I would have stayed all night but the misses gave strict instructions to have the boy in bed! We were heading over to Broadstairs on Sunday for a day at the beach while the weather was still good. I tried a plug around the bottom of the cliffs there on the way back to the car at high water but didn't get anything either! The beta box hurt the sides of the bottom of my back, still hurts now. I have tried to address this problem and think I have found a solution. The bottom bracket which is concaved to fit the lower back is a bit too flexible and gives too much in the middle so the sides of the bracket dig into the love handle region. I have wedged an empty spool of line in the gap between the rack and box to stop the bracket from flexing so much. It feels alot better like this but I haven't taken it on a hike yet. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Her are some pics I took of the warren earlier in the year! ![]() ![]() ![]() All the best. Cheers S&M, The warren has alot of potential. The scenery is stunning and is easy enough to get to. There can be a lot of walking involved if wish. Once I pass my driving test I will be visiting it often. I have found some steps down the cliff which would make it easier for me to access from Dover. Its rough ground though so whacking out 15lb line and shock leader is a bit optimistic. As well as the rocks there are huge Lumps of clay for the weight to dig into. There are natural springs all the way along the bottom of cliffs. I have heard of Salmon being caught there as well. All the best.
