| After having to borrow my mates rod rest (which he even kindly delivered), I still haven't got one yet but it is higher on the list than most things....... I totally overslept due to working lates Mon-Fri (Bodyclock > Alarm), there was a real "Do I bother, or just kick back and chill at home for the day...?" After seeing the weather, I thought it'd be nice day for a chill on the beach even if I had missed the tide. So there was the hectic run down the tacklle shop for bait (, a knife, and few other little bits and bobs). Then that lovely bus ride of to SPP..... Grabbed a coffee on the walk along, spotting a very busy seafront I kept on walking. My intention was a short stroll then down the beach to try a new 'spot', as I've normally/recently fished more the other side of the Royal Marines Museum way. Where do I finally find a 'free' spot.... yup the RMM, althogh a little way down from previous. ![]() "So here goes..... first time fishing on own for..... erm.... lots? of years..."Rod set up, Rod rest up, freshly bought trace all baited and on..... Whooosh!..... well in my eyes anyway (I'm sure I'll get better one day) first cast goes out. Bell on, Shades on, lay back on bag and light up a smoke... Happiness! Get comfy... Aha!.. I have coffee.. *sip* *tingaling*.... *sip* *TING!A!LING!A!LING!!!* ![]() ![]() Bream ![]() That's it! Today is a 100% Success! ![]() Even if I did get here 2 hours late.... Right, now I can sit back and chill.... A few bites and bait strips later Bam! Red Gurnard (or a wtf fish as it was to me at the time, ID'd by mate after I'd sent him 2nd text message saying "Wish you were here?" )Was a close catch, as it dropped off the hook to my feet. Lots of bites, another couple more bream, but not much chilling later... I ran out of bait* and called it a day (mainly due to fact I'd run out of smokes!). Also pulled in a crab too, was going to keep it as pet for a couple of hours and feed it the odd bits of worm left on my stripped hooks. But it decided otherwise and made a run for it along the beach. ![]() ![]() All in all a fantastic day! Sun kept popping out for a while, nice chilled spot on the beach even if I didn't actually get to chill much, and I caught fish, 2 Species too! Bitten by the bug...? That happened a while ago...... Now totally gone "Hook, line, and sinker!" ![]() ![]() * Next tackle shop visit will include pennel rig(s)! Not only did my mackerel come in, and are currently hidden in the freezer.... (I'd be over the moon to catch something that size of them!!), I'll use 'live' bait next time too. As long as I not forget my smokes again! ![]() __________________ -- Bart Rank : Rod Rattling Rookie! Bait Bung'ing Beginner! | Re: A nice few hours on Eastney beach Saturday afternoon.. Nice one! I always seem to catch more when I fish on my own, probably because I pay more attention! Once the fishing bug bites Its hard to contain! Its hard convincing the misses that I need a bit of kit over £100, I try not to tell her these days! All the best Jason __________________ ><((((º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·...¸><((((º>¸. ·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·.. ><((((º>`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸.·´¯`·...¸><((((º> |

| Re: A nice few hours on Eastney beach Saturday afternoon.. nice one mate .. glad you were paying attention in class ![]() not sure why you want pennel rigs - they're only used for larger baits .. pulley rigs arent needed along that way as the ground is clean - 2 hook paternosters ... perhaps .. I'm with Worzel tho, a little practice in front of the telly and you will be tying rigs in no time .. __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting |

| Re: A nice few hours on Eastney beach Saturday afternoon.. What I want/need most is advice. ![]() Have got the hang of the tiddlers now. Another few hours spent lobbing the lead again Mon evening (1 Bream each, have to admit mates was a whopper for a bream anyway), and I am out again either Thurs or Fri ..... (or can I do both somehow!). Time to move on to something proper! ![]() ![]() Or at least I hope there may be something proper of a Pompey beach somewhere... Guessing nights are the best time, but any tips for hoping to hook something worthwhile in daylight hours? Same for nights too of course. Damn I'm too hooked! Shopping list keeps on getting bigger...... unlike my pockets Top of list currently: Rod Rest (Although I seem to have one on an ongoing loan.... it came back home with me again, when the person I borrowed it off dropped me off __________________ -- Bart Rank : Rod Rattling Rookie! | Re: A nice few hours on Eastney beach Saturday afternoon.. Nice to see you've been well and truly bitten by the bug ![]() At least you can get out whenever you feel like it. My nearest bit of beach is fifty miles away. So i'm down to the odd piking session and holidays to the isle of wight in the october school week. Still at least i'll have the whole week to bash the bass.(not litrerally of coarse. I always catch and release.) Advice.Advice. Now let me think..........If you want something a bit bigger than the bait you've been catching you could try for a nice bass over 4Lbs. ![]() Use yer pennel rig for this one. Fish the flood. That's when the bass is at it's bussiest in my experience. Fish in the dark anytime after 8pm. It gives them confidence to come in closer Fish a big bait. a whole fish between 6-8 inches in length with it's backbone removed. Successfull baits for me have been. Mackerel,Pouting and wrasse. Cast out about twenty yrds with a breakaway lead (5oz is normally enough in the solent) Let that tide pull the lead round until you feel the lead grip. sometimes it may look as if you're barely 5 yrds out. This is o.k. Then it's the waiting game. Use your second rod to catch bait. Worm= pout Macrklel= crab ![]() good luck __________________ I'D RATHER HAVE A BOTTLE IN FRONT OF ME THAN A FRONTAL LABOTOMY |

| Re: A nice few hours on Eastney beach Saturday afternoon.. Well and truely bitten doesn't come close...... Looking at fishing both my days off this week too! Sunny, almost windless days, perfect for chilling on the beach. Sadly enough, I've not caught a pouting for many years now..... Couple of tiny bass, loads of bream, and the token red gurnad. Can't see the bream being much use due to spines. Removing backbone? ![]() Tips? ![]() Got a couple of HUGE mackerel sat in the freezer for next proper night sesh (will be with mate with all the gear etc). I asked for a couple of 'tiny' 'smallest' 'dregs' for bait...... I got things that would be a bloody lovely catch or even a meal! But that's what happens when your estranged wife works in a Fish Market. ![]() Not got a 2nd Rod yet, not even got my own Rod rest! ![]() The list in previous post is my want/shopping list. __________________ -- Bart Rank : Rod Rattling Rookie! | Re: A nice few hours on Eastney beach Saturday afternoon.. Sounds like you have been well and truely bitten by the bug again! I got back into fishing this year and have been hitting Eastney/Hayling Island, with a little success, nothing over 1lb in weight yet, but a few different species..... Maybe i'll see you out dangling sometime soon! Mark |
