| Not much of a report really, but it's a start.... After getting a call on my break at work "Going fishing tonight, you up for it?", I reply "Why not indeed! I may of started work at 8am but..." setting out fishing 12hrs later for the night still sounded good! After grinding the day through, and it was a grind too! Only thing worse than working Saturday, is working Sunday... I finally leave that hell hole that I call work.... Strolling on home...... the urge returns..... (been using mates gear for a little bit) I wanna go buy some gear! Detour via local tackle shop on way home... ![]() Picked up rod/reel combo and some basics (Wish I'd picked up some bait too, see later), nothing fancy just a start to build from. Fished off Eastney beach, christened my rod with an 'ickle bream. Although in my eyes as it was first fish on the rod I had only bought a few hours ago, it was at least 20lbs! ![]() The picture doesn't do it justice, so not published. ![]() Couple of tiny pollock, and another bream caught in all. Bait provided was not the best, also the silly bugger left a load at home. But my mate does have lamp, kettle, gas ring, tent thingy, etc etc too so I think I can forgive him ![]() Anyone who knows Portsmouth or local areas well, please feel free to pass on any hints, tips, or even favourite spots if you really want ![]() __________________ -- Bart Rank : Rod Rattling Rookie! | Re: Late night lead lobbing. Was nice to get the line wet within about 6 hours of purchase. The fact I was already going probably tipped me just over the edge for purchase, as I was intending to take a stroll down on way home from work anyway for a close look at some bits. A total blank was my worst nightmare, not a good sign for a trip with a new rod. So, to actually catch on it was a double bonus! Also helps to maintain my "I want more!" feeling.... Damn you 12-8PM shifts this week, I can't get to tackle shop until Saturday! ![]() ...... but my mate is off on Fri.... he can go.... pick me up from work... ![]() P.s Anyone recommend a 'decent' cheap Tripod (2 Rod min). Nothing special, unless it's stupidly cheap. Much more a 'Cost>Quality' basis right now. __________________ -- Bart Rank : Rod Rattling Rookie! Bait Bung'ing Beginner! | Re: Late night lead lobbing. More of a pain that I can't get down the tackle shop until Sat morning.... Which if I've not been out Fri night, I hope to spend fishing. Could a be hasty purchase with bait, or might have to do a late night run up to my mates and rob a tripod on Friday.... All weather permitting of course (apart from poss kit purchase). So far night fishing has been a lot more frequent (and is probably my choice of fishing), but seeing as I don't drive I've got to start setting myself up for fair days first of all, then maybe a little shelter, and then maybe nights after I complete my basic collection of tackle. Equip so far: Rod/Reel/Couple of weights/Packs of Hooks, Swivels, Snaps, and beads! But it's a start!! ![]() My mate on the other hand has 4 rods, Tripods, Shelter, Light, Cooker, blah blah blah... Last trip was like a ******** picnic, as he even packed sausage sarnies for the 3 of us that went. ![]() So I in no real rush to set up for solo nights yet..... __________________ -- Bart Rank : Rod Rattling Rookie! | Re: Late night lead lobbing. Best things I bought when I started fishing were a floatation suit and a bivey tent! Followed closely by my lil camping stove and a kettle! Hehehe, nothing better than hiding in the tent when its cold and wet and drinking a hot fresh cuppa...... Apart from catching a pb of course. Sounds like your on the right track tho buddy, just build it up bit by bit and before you know it youl have a proper lil base camp for comfortable fishing in any weather :-) Good to hear theres a few fish coming out around pompy too, I usually fish hayling but my have a blast over that way soon |

| Re: Late night lead lobbing. anywhere fishing the solent waters are productive. If you want a decent sized fish try fishing a macrkel fillet or whole mackerel with its backbone removed on a pennel rig with 2/0 and 3/0 aberdeens and cast out barely 20rds out on a flooding tide and wait for mr. bass to show up. Welcome to the sport. And good luck for the future trips. Any advice you need can be found on this forum.Just ask scottish and mental or pingu they are the kiddies when it comes to these areas. Tighter lines ![]() __________________ I'D RATHER HAVE A BOTTLE IN FRONT OF ME THAN A FRONTAL LABOTOMY |
