More Sole

With strong SW winds blowing the western end of the Island was unfishable, so decided to give Shanklin a go Friday evening. Met Paul at the carpark and walked along to our mark to find Bill already fishing. As we set up, one rod with worm and sole rig the other a 4/0 on a clip down for a Ray, Bill landed this superb sole of 1lb 1oz.

So they were about, there was weed in the first few yards of the shore but the rest seemed clear and I was soon in with a Pout, Bill then followed his success with another fish of 1lb 8oz.

And Paul with his first ever Sole only a slip but he was chuffed with it.

I then had another Pout and a slip Sole of my own.

Well the Sole were about and feeding and with 3 hours to high we were hoping for a good night, then the weed arrived. We tried to fish through it but it got worse so just gone 11pm Paul and I decided to move to Gurnard.
We arrived and quickly set up, thankfully there was no weed, but seemingly no fish. We fished on till 2.30am biteless when Paul decided to call it a night. I moved futher along the beach to near where I'd parked. Paul left and I started to roll a cigarette looked up to see my worm rod with slack line, tightened it but nothing happned. Left it 5 minutes then wound in to find another slip sole on.

Well photo taken I slip her back, returned to the rod to bait up to find the other rod with a whole squid on, had a slack line, picked it up to tighten the line and felt a thump. Struck and felt something kick and in came a Bass of 2lb exactly.

Finally I'd found the fish, 2 fish within as many minutes. Well I stayed there till 5.30am in heavy showers and increasing wind and didn't even have a nibble.

Hard work but found a few fish, just a shame the weed came through at Shanklin. Still always next time.

All my fish were returned alive.
