King Alfred Hove, quick session

Exhilerating session down the King alfred, Forgotten what a good laugh it is to bash some lead out against gale force winds, Dispensed with the rod rest and held the Rod, amazing how many bites translate to the rod when you do this, eventually hooked up with mr Bass, a little fatter than previous efforts, so I feel an evening session coming on, now I know the weed didnt present to much of a problem.

Well done connecting with the bass like that!
Do you think you would hook up more often if you hold the rod and strike straight away? I usually leave it for a few bites then strike.
Fishing in a gale is always hard work.
Nice one.

Re: King Alfred Hove, quick session

I don't think you can beat it really, rod rests are ok, when your having a coffee(clutch set!) But when you get a bite on a rod and your connected to it I always feel more in control, Bass will feel a hook and drop it, so if you can re act quicker the better....however fails miserably for Bream sometimes, but generally because they are so small.
Bass hungry, will always come back for a second go though!

No need to hold it for the Cod though, My Dovorian Friend.
Because the type of set up for Cod normally requires heftier gear, unless your arms are like Mike Tyson.
I like to wade into the surf When fishing surf Beaches for Bass, so a Rod stand is a bit impossible, but the Rod I am using is not disimiliar to the lightness of a spinning Rod with light reel and tackle.
Having said that it is still good practice to hold the Rod, (if you can).
