Southsea pier this morning.

Just got back from another amazing fishing session.
Arrived on the pier about 0600,cracking morning, light breeze clear sky perfect conditions for plaice, shame nobody had told the plaice this.
Cornish angler finally arrived about 7 after sleeping in AGAIN,by this time i d already fought and landed a monster bullhead of about 3 inches.
The tide came up and then turned and there was still no sign of the elusive plaice, another bullhead came my way and simon caughtsome mussels and stones.
Last cast of the day i had small Bass about 7 inches which was released on the condition it came back in 5 years.
The highlight of the morning was watching a large baitball of fish all about 6 inches in length only 10yrds off the beach next to the pier, not sure what they were ,maybe Herring?
I did see one larger fish go through them ,maybe a bass but not sure, either way its a sign that things may be on the up and summer is around the corner

You caught a bass? Nice one! Signs that the summer fish are coming, bring it on!

Ben the pier is great for mackerel, garfish, scad and small bass, there are some massive bass under the pier but landing them is another matter.
The trouble is it attracts lots of kids and idiots,if your after a bit of peace then avoid,if your after lots of fun with light tackle then its great.
About half way along on your left there is a spot called the bay, this is a great spot when the tide is flowing east, west, just fish a float and strip or shrimp lures and you can not fail.
You ever wantto go give us a shout.
john
