Bass Bashing

I haven't managed much fishing lately due to the kids being off school mainly.
I did however manage a session yesterday with the boy in toe.
I headed to a mark I have had my eye on for a while. It was a hell of a walk. I took all my gear with me, beach rods bass rod and spinning gear.
After an hour of walking with all my gear I finally set up 2 hours before high water with a slight offshore breeze and slightly overcast skies.
I cast the beach rods hoping for a bass with pennel rigs with mackerel and squid baits. I put a two hook flapper out with dungy lug but never had a bite for two hours. I flicked the spinning rod about a bit and still, nothing.

At high water I noticed the sea gulls giving it large by some rocks just along from where I was so I headed that way with my spinning rod.
I climbed down on to the the rocks and cast my plug out along the line of the rocks and reeled in and just as I got the lure back to my feet... bang! I got a bass fighting like hell!
I pulled him up out of the rocks and scrambled back over the rocks to the shore and unhooked him. He came in a 2.5lb. I left the fish with my Mum who wouldn't venture onto the rocks. (she took a pic of me with said bass).
I cast out again, same method and again...whallop another 2lb something bass. I was perched in a rock with the waves breaking and splashing me. I could see all the whitebait swimming by then the shoals of mackerel chasing them and then the gulls going mad. It was most exhilarating.
I kept casting my lure out and kept catching the bass. I managed 6 in total and lost 1. you cant win them all...but hey what brilliant fun.
When I packed up I reeled in an eel. A snotty I think its called. One for the species list.
I left 2 hours after high water and hope to return soon.
Best days fishing yet. :-)

All the best.

Jason

I gave 3 of the big ones away. I had one last night the misses made a coating up of wholegrain mustard mayo and cheese and spead it over a fillet then whacked it in the oven for 15 min. It was very tasty!

Re: Bass Bashing

Some nice fish there. And good on you for thinking on yer feet and keeping your eyes and ears to what is happening. Alot of fishermen wouldn't have noticed the gulls and missed out some cracking sport.
Best way to catch bass is with spinning gear in my opinion. Great fun

Re: Bass Bashing

Nice one Jason! That coating on the fillets sounds nice, yum!
I,m always watching those flying rats not only do they try and grab the topwater lures but they are a great indication if theres any baitfish around.
Brilliant sesh mate, well done

They were all sizable, the smallest was just under 1lb and was 37cm

The 3 large ones were around 2.5 the medium one was just over 1.5lb the 2 little ones were 1lb and just under 1lb.
