is it worth a try

me little girl likes the idea of fishing and she loves to eat mackerel so my questio is

would it be worth a trip to south parade peir in southsea this weekend if so what would be the best time to go, morning day night ect

must add all i have is a carp rod and reel with 12lb line i do have a few feathers laying around and just thought it would be lovely to spend a couple hours with me daughter especially if she can bag a few maccy, also are you allowed to take dogs on there as we have a small dog that we usually take every where, but if not its not a problem

All I can say is to make sure that you only use a 1 ounce weight if your not going to use shockleader, I can't comment on the are though so sorry about that :)

Re: is it worth a try

as far as im aware theres no restriction on dogs - by god ive seen some dogs on that pier in the past
Carp rod is fine but i would suggest float fishing at high tide for best results for the mackerel or using little ragworm baits straight dowen for a trillion little pollack and pout plus wrasse ..
use slivers of mackerel on the float for mackerel and garfish or a spinner will work just as fine mate

Re: is it worth a try

Check before you go as I tried to fish there today and was turned away by the police because they were demolishing a burnt out building opposite (Harry Rednapps nightclub) when we drove back past about 2.00 the road was still shut but most of the building had gone. See my post "change of plans"

With regard to the Carp rods and 12lb Line , when I use my Bass rods I only use 15lb line and no Shockleaders but I only use a 2oz lead and I only give it a flick , so as long as you are not power casting you should be ok, what weights do you use with the 12lb line when coarse fishing? that will give you some idea what you can cast with the set up.
