| back on the beach, bin far too long. i wasn't to enthusiastic but eventually let myself get persuaded to get dragged out by Hartley. i had a few things to tryout and it was due to be a dry night and so we set out for an 11pm tide at abbotsbury, though we wern't gonna get there till highwater fishing the ebb was not going to be the best plan but it was more a testing session for me than a catch fish session. we stopped at abbots and met a guy comming off the beach he said it was all quiet & he'd seen nothing caught since 4pm, this disharteded us so we went to bexi instead & enjoyed the free parking as time was running short, charmouth or lyme was sort of thought about but we didn't get there. arrived at high tide surf was light and the breeze from the west, sort of 2 0'clock as you look at the sea. the sky was overcast with little moon and things looked good baits were mackerel and squid, i fished a blinged 2 hook flapper + an up & over, and tested an experimental downupdown variation with a 15ft snood .the other thing on test was my recent aquisition -2nd hand sl30sh, luv daiwa .fitted the sportmag to the 1st rod and launched a mackerel bait on the up & over rig then strapped the slosh to the awb with a few gentle flicks out to bed in the new line soon i had the spool singing as i increased effort but the spool was starting to fluff up before i was leaning into in fully and with the head wind i wasn't prepared to put a rig and bait on it yet and puff it up so back in the box it went pending a slight detune, and the other abu was employed with the downupdown rig . all was tediously quiet , not a bite & no sign of other anglers catching either.:-(. i managed to catch a doggie as the ebb started to rub hartleys nose in it as he was still blanking, but it was a lone one and the rest of the night was boreing and fishless, with the pair of us nodding off from time to time due to the lack of interest. one of my rods registered a bite at about dawn , i was so fed up with it i almost ignored it but thought i aught to do something about it so got out of my pit and found a fish on , a short battle and i'd beached number 2, proveing to hartley that the doggie wasn't a fluke, ![]() this time it was a small bass, another one followed 1/2 hour later. all fish fell to whole pennelled squid on the downupdown rig, killer rig on the day i didn't think it would work at all to be honest just wondered if such a long snood would be effective, cast from the shore. might cause deep hooking probs with rays etc and tangles in turbulent water or weak tides. ![]() __________________ beer so many venues, so little time. |
