Dovers Eastern Arm 29 July 11

I managed to escape the kids and get out down the arm this afternoon for a few hours. I had a driving lesson first thing this morning which went ok unlike the one I had yesterday.
I was set up at about 12:30 hw was at 11:00. The tide was still quite strong when I first got there. I used two beach casters with 4/0 pulley pennel rigs with squid wrapped in mackerel fillet and bluey.
I used my bass rod down the wall with a 3 hook paternoster rig to try for wrasse or the off chance of a mini species. I managed a few nice sized pouting using this method. As soon as I lowered the trace into the water it was attacked by the pouting. I gave up after a few triple shots of 1lb pouting.
I managed a few dogfish on the 4/0 pennel rigs and nothing else, a bit disappointing really.
There were 2 other people fishing today, quite busy for the arm!
I got my baitcaster rod and reel out and fished a frozen sand eel behind a ball weight and thought I would walk up the pier and drag it along with me and go and see what the others had caught. I didn’t get far before I had quite a big take on the sand eel. I had quite a good fight on the light spinning gear and pulled in a Pollock of about 1lb at a guess.
I walked up to see what the other guy had caught and he showed me a bass of about 10lb! He caught it down the wall on a mackerel flapper. I went back and tried that myself but never had any luck.
I was going to go back and ask him if I could take a pic of his bass to show you guys but when I started to walk back that way they were packing up so I left them to it.
I started to pack up and was gone by 16:30 I had to get back to pick the kids up again.

A Couple of random pics I took at work!

All the best.
Jason

Re: Dovers Eastern Arm 29 July 11

Nice pics and report Jason, think i,d be tempted to fish one of those pout as a live bait for a big Bass.
I,m off out tomorrow to a rough ground mark near where bulletproof is going at Perranuthnoe. Some nice marks around that area for bullhuss/rockling/dogs in fact my PB bullhuss of 14lb came from over there in the daylight.
Here's hoping!

Steve

Pouting are a pain in the butt, they poo all over you as well! Paul says they must be female. The last one of the 5 in the pic where they are all lined up looks like it has a serious look of regrett on its face!

Those are all of a resonable size and taste nice when eaten fresh, I thought they were a bit big for live bait so will bread them and eat em.

Steve

let us know how you get on!

Pout are ok to eat when fresh, they dont keep too well Im told. I was sceptical about eating them but when I finally did I found the just like any other whit fish and not too many bones.
