| A few in one.... I thought I'd already posted half of this but obviously not! ![]() I've found things a bit tougher over the last week or so and having filled my boots with hounds during June have been trying to see if anything else is about. A week ago I headed to Milford-on-sea for a bit of spinning at last light and also to see if anything was biting on the long rods. Well it was very quite on the bottom with only a schoolie and a doggie. Spinning was good sport though with 5 bass coming to the lure in about 45 minutes. ![]() Had a scratching session at Browndown with Steviebhoy and Jaycee and it was pants, only small hounds, pout a dog between three of us. Friday night I headed out with Jaycee for a hound and maybe an elusive stinger. It was deadly quiet and floating weed made it very hard work, only a small silver eel. My girlfriend suggested going to Lymington to look round the shops, see her friend play at the bandstand and also said she wanted to go crabbing at the quay! Rude not to bring a rod then with grey ghosts the target. Despite the hordes of people spooking them I managed to get one taking bread and snuck out my first thick-lip of the year. ![]() 13/7/11 With a day off and a load of left over ragworm and squid it was rude not to go fishing! I decided to have an afternoon fishing for bream. I was in place at low and found two others fishing. One of them landed a nice bream but they had to pack up after about an hour. I soon had the first keeper of the day on a party squid and half on my quota for a BBQ on Friday. Next cast I landed a bonus species, pretty sure this one is a small ballan wrasse. ![]() A few more undersized bream followed before a better bite and a 2nd decent bream was landed. This one was slightly bigger at 1lb 7oz and took a squid head. BBQ quota achieved! ![]() Although there wasn't a lot of weed around the power of the tide run still made it a problem in fits and starts. I was still catching a steady stream of just undersized bream though. I put out another squid head and ignored the constant little taps caused by the smaller bream pecking at it hoping they would attract one of the bigger ones. Suddenly the tip pulled over sharply twice in quick succession! I wound into it and felt the fish on, great little scrap the bream ran right along the beach in front of me. I knew it was a PB when I landed it and was so pleased to get it I weighed it in a carrier bag and released it. 2lb 1oz and a new personal best. ![]() A few more bream probably just under the pound mark followed before it was time to head home via dropping some leftover bait to Scottish and mental. |
