Town Quay,a Birthday and 6 species !

Phoned Jaycee to see if he fancied a bash on the quay as i had some half dead rag to use up and was told that the weed down there was a joke the night before , but he was up for another try ..
On arriving at about 8.45 there were a few large rafts of weed ( mainly infront of John i might add )!

First fish just after dark was a small doggie for me on rag and squid followed 30 minutes later by a starry pup of about 2 lb on party squid ..
Nothing was coming in around me and the weed wasn't doing much to hamper the fishing..
The water was flat calm but i was determined to stick it out in the chance of something new but Jaycee had given up with the weed and the efforts of the night before so packed up and fired the kettle on
By the time i had stopped yawning there were only a few souls left on the quay but i have to thank the two guys from Winchester who handed me about a half pound of cracking fresh rag cheers guys !
I decided if i was gonna get home i had to get some decent worm baits out so loaded the hooks on both rods - one a 3 hook flapper with size 2 worm hooks and the other a 2 hook rig with tiny semi circle hooks baited with rag and tippied with a bit of black ..
3.00 am and i'd had one more fish - a monster of a starry that weighed less than the coffee i was holding



undeterred i stuck at the worm baits and in a 30 minute period managed my first bass of 2011 - a fine little fish of exactly 1lb



then a double and a surprise on each hook !

another first for 2011 in the form of a small sole -



and of all things - a friggin whiting ..... in July !!



All in all 6 species and not a bad little night .. and a good way to see in my 21st (ahem) birthday ..

looks like a good result mate.... where do you recomend fishing on that quay as whenever i go i never know where to fish as to be honest im normally only bass hunting but a few smuts/dogs wud be a nice target for this year.. ta

Looks like a great session there. I had a little whiting a month ago. I don't think they really leave. I've caught makkie well into December before.
