East Beach today Evening All... Just got in from a high tide session down at east beach hayling. Sea was reasonably calm, few others fishing along the groins. Pitched myself and my dad up by groin #20. Started off with rag with the tide coming up but not even a bite, so after an hour or so i switched to some peeler, which i was using for the very first time. Had bites every cast, cleaned the hook off mostly which was frustrating (any tips to stop this much appreciated..think i need to up the hook size) but did land a couple of small black bream. Dad stayed on the the Rag and had nothing! WIll head out tomorrow afternoon to use up the remaining rag. Any tips for a low tide venue in the portsmouth area????? Cheers Mark

Re: East Beach today Use fine wire hooks around the 2-4 sort of size with a long shank. I would just use small strips of squid. Rag is good but if you leave too much tail dangling off the hook the bream will just strip it off. Squid is cheaper and tougher. Il be down that way sat nite armed with squid for the bream and hard back crabs for the smuts ;0)

Re: East Beach today Chichester harbour entrance on hayling is good over low tide (go left of where you were fishing in this report its a fair walk tho) when you get around the corner youl see a post to ur left and a bouy to the right of that, they mark a deep hole (around 60ft at high tide) to the left of the post there is another hole but not quite as deep. The smuts tend to follow the edges of both these holes as do the bass. Just to the left of the life boat station it shallows up a bit but is good for bream, bass and smuts u also get mullet here. If you walk down to the sailing club youve got a lil point which is good for bass and mullet. Early mornings in the summer round this stretch of beach is good for spinning for bass and mackerell. I would say fish an hour or so either side of low or high. The tide is very strong round here and can get very weedy very quickly. Hope this helps fella. Mark

Re: East Beach today well, i went out for the tide around midday, east beach, hayling again, fished it from half ten through til 3 with my bro. Using rag, squid and crab, wind was light, sea was calm, sun was out, but where were the fish????? We both had a few light rattles on the line but amounting to a blank sadly... there were a couple of others out and they seemed to have less luck than us! lol. Nothing seemed to be taken, 90% of the time the bait reeled back in pretty much as it went out, albeit a little drowned..... I think i'll aim at an evening/dusk session for the next outing, i'll check the weather and tides for next weekend......
