Ray Hunting Charmouth 11/6/11

well this weekend is the clubs 24 hour ray comp. weigh in best 2 ( insize ) of each species ray caught between 7pm sat and 7pm today

so plans drawn up
tried early doors at budliegh for some fresh makkie
what a lovely way to wake up



pity the fish didnt join in though

so few phone calls and fresh live wriggly sandeel obtained hoorah
into new super dooper bait carrier courtesy of EDDC



and a chance to try the Dvice for what i wanted

and have to say it delivers live sandeel brilliantly as they were usually still wriggling on retrieve, great

charmouth was the venue for sat night
picked up Si at 6 and away
all looked good to me a bit of a surf, but lovely clear skies with a great view out over chesil and portland



there were already 4 other club members there and Rich joined us later

fishing unfortunately was not exactly dynamic
few txts about and others were blanking, finding rockling or pout
rich was into pout on worm

the members on jacobs and up north at Puttsbrough were fairing no better either

about 10.30 i notice my lines were crossed and reel in the left , which also brought in the right and a massive tangle, but result its the target species



unfortunately way too small

well we battles on till 12.30 with nothing happening apart from the cloud building makeing the moons light through the cloud stare at us



as driving home the rain started, and as the weathermen predicted todays horrendous out there so have decided family day

will find out later how others did , but no weigh in again at a comp for me, but at least found target

Nice one Dave at least you beached a ray , what do they mean by weigh in ? Surely not knock on the head and weigh in ?

our club promotes catch and release mate, so its take the weight yourself, release and then at end only have to say the amounts

if its a really good fish most people will have a phone pic or someone nearby to verify

so none of those club trophy pics of dead fish by clubhouse signs etc...

cant believe the result i heard tonight

15 signed in( maybe 1 or 2 more not 100% sure)

travelled from exmouth to jacobs/charmouth/ puttsbrough and guess a few other spots

Not one ray weighed in in size

so a total blank on comp as well

so getting the 1 small fish was good but not good enough
tough weekend and todays monsoon and gales ruined today totally
