| Dover's Eastern Arm, 10th July 11 I was all set for a days fishing on the arm first thing this morning. Just had to get the boy to school and the girl to nursery. I managed to get the boy to school and pick up my bait. On my way to the nursery the misses suggested a fry up at Morrison's, I thought it would be a nice touch as it was raining and I still had plenty of time. After a fry up the misses decides the girl is too ill for nursery (a bit snotty!) so the I phoned around to see if anyone would have her but no-one was available. The fishing was off :-( Then at 11:30 my Mum phoned back and said she would have her. So I managed to get to the arm by about 13:00 just before low water, hw 18:20. I used 2 beach rods cast out and a bass rod down the wall. I had a flick around with my new spinning set-up but didn’t get a take on that (got to stop buying rods!). I was using Rag worm as my primary bait with Squid Mackerel and Sand eel. I used two new rigs for me today. I tried the wishbone rig and a long and low pennel rig. I have used pulley pennels up until now but where I'm casting from a height into deep water the bait is probably just off the bottom with the pulley. But a long and low would put the bait on the bottom. I used a 3 hook paternoster with size 2 hooks down the wall. Straight away I was into the dogs! I hauled several in, sometimes in double shots. I was keeping count but lost count at 4. I must have had about 8-10 in the end, mostly on the wishbone rig. A few took Mackerel fillet on the pennel. I never had anything down the wall for ages just a couple of little pouting. I had a few pouting on the wishbone as well. Then my bass rod went bonkers! A nice sized school Bass. I managed to catch 2 dogfish on the long and low pennel. When I got it in it was a right tangle with the pair of them thrashing around. Once I finality untangle them the snood had parted! I put that rod away and carried on with the other 2. The long and low doesn’t work well with Dogs! I never had anything for a while. Then on the Bass rod down the wall I had another massive take. I thought it was another Bass but it was a rather large Ballen Wrasse. It was soon 5 o’clock so I had to pack up and get back to pick the kids up, I gave my Mum the bass for babysitting everything else went back. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() All the best.
