didnt cross my mind in the slightest when i suggested to the missus that it vwould be good to take the kids to the beach for the afternoon/evening

with time on our hands 1st stop was hythe, just for a mooch about realy , secured some rag & froze crab from bells then wandered the town.
ended up wandering up the pier with the wife n kids , gulls were feeding allover on fry it looked like and we saw a small shoal of bass around the peir head. caught the tram then wandered back & tryed to get pat to leave me in the husband creche, but she wasn't gonna fall for that. :-(



so i settled for collecting a handful of hardback crabs to augment the bait supply then hit the chippy. a few chip buttys later and we headed off towards lee on solent stopping for an hour or so to recce a new venue & dig a few lug,

anglers were evident all along the main lee on solent beaches and for a change i dropped in at the arcade section so as to be close to the shops etc for pat & the kids,

the wind was northwesterly and the spring tide was for 1am, with a new moon and the sea flat calm, looking like this the following morning



the target was smoothound and i think a few others had the same idea,
rigs were pulley pennels with 50lb snoods and varavas 1/0 bm's.
had both awb's out , the 122 with the sportmag and the 129 with my latest project reel- abu seven, ct converted and bushes upgraded to bareings.

things started slowly with just the everpresent weed, missed a small knock on the early flood ,
i had to wait till about midnight for any more signs of fish, pat & both kids had gatecrashed my bivvy so it was a little cramped but a quick strike and fish on,
it was the usual heave ho job of a smoothy in weedy conditions but i did get a couple of short runs before getting her to the beach.
while calling for sherilee to sort the camera i remembered id packed no bigfish wieghing bag,
so the fish was unweighed in the interests of returning her



quite a thick fish i'd guess at 7-10lb.but i'm no judge.

fished through till 0530 with just one more small pup to show for it,
i can catch fish when hartley stays home.
