| After being rudely awaken by my alarm at 3am this morning i slowly got out of bed and got myself sorted, ready for a few hours on the beach. I cant say im keen on getting up at that time but i have to admit i do love the roads being sooooo quiet! lol. I go to the beach at around 4.15, just as it was starting to get light, set up my rod, stuck the feathers with a wedge on the end and started casting out, counting the wedge down then retrieving. as it got lighter i noticed a dark shape quite a distance from the sure, holding its position against the tide...... a seal, i watched as it lazily hung in the tide and then dove out of sight ![]() not the best pic i know but if you use your imagination you can see the head and body! lol standing there on the beach i got treated to a beautiful sun rise and it almost made getting up at stupid o'clock worth while!! lol ![]() i worked my way along the beach casting as i went, i started to see a few splashes in the water so cast around where i had seen the disturbances. then some fish jumped infront of me.... Bass?? i cast again trying to get the fish to take the hooks but nothing. i carried on casting and as the feathers came close in my rod locked up... weed!... or so i thought! the "weed" started pulling back and my line started cutting through the water against the tide. a few really good kicks and then line started being taken from my reel, what ever it was felt like a nice size, i managed to get it a little closer and saw a flash of silver as it ran parallel to the shore, it kicked hard and took more line and dissapeared from view again, this was a great fight! i could see my line cutting through the water as the fish swam left and right, i could feel every kick as it defiantly came closer to shore, another flash of silver and then on the beach at my feet i saw what had given me such a nice fight....... ![]() ok the mullet was foul hooked on my feathers but they all count!! lol. the fish went to 2lb on my scales and i had a big ol smile on my face. i detatched the feathers from the mullet, got a pic and slid him back into the water to join his mates. every now and then i felt more tugs on my line and after inspecting my feathers i could see that i was hooking more mullet from the scales they were leaving on my hooks. low tide came and went and my thoughts turned to mackerel and of course bass. i worked my way back up the beach casting and counting the wedge again, after around 10mins i hooked into my 1st mackerel then on the next cast another. a couple more casts but no more fish there so walked a bit further, then a bit further still. the mackerel were there but they were well spread out, i managed to get another 4 mackerel before i called it a day and came home. a great morning sesh and well worth the early start. to say im chuffed with the mullet would be an understatement, i think i'll have to get back down there and actually target them soon because that was a great fight from a fish that was only 2lb in weight. anyways thats all from me for now. i hope the pix come out a lil smaller this time and no1 gets a sort hand from having to scroll sideways to read my post!! catch ya all laters Mark |
