Re: Chesil later today Hi Nick. Sorry I didn't see this till too late. Chesil has not been fishable until today for ages, due to the brisk SW winds and when they have not been blowing the surf has not had a chance to die down. I had hoped to go out this evening with Chesil Chucker, but he came up with a lame excuse about it being his wedding anniversary or something like that :-) I hope you have a good session and would love to know what you catch. I am hoping we are going to get out on Sunday. __________________ Check my blog for a daily fishing forecast from Weymouth, Portland, Chesil Beach & Kimmeridge Bay. www.fishingtails.co.uk

Re: Chesil later today Well as far as conditions go it was very good but as far as the fishing goes it was rubbish! Loads of spider activity, baits were stripped down to nothing in no time at all and occassionaly snoods coming back hookless. I did manage some nice mackeral for the table and some lovely joeys for the bait section of my freezer. I winkled out a dab during daylight and I reckon that if I'd arrived earlier with more time I probably would've had a few more. My mate managed a doggy that fell to a whole squid and he also bagged up on the macky. We fished at Cogden and apart from a couple of guys plugging, fruitlessly, we didnt see any one else. Ok there were no hounds or rays for us but it couldve been worse, I could ve been at work! __________________ Species so far for 2012 Pike,Chub,Roach,Ruffe,Mackeral,Plaice, LSD,Pout

Re: Chesil later today Unlucky Nick. Fresh stocks for the freezer is never a bad thing though. ![]() __________________ Right then, checklist: Rods. Check. Reels. Check. Speckled Hen. Check. Bait…… BAIT! Sh*t, where’s the bait?

Re: Chesil later today Anything during daylight is a bonus on Chesil and better than a kick in the nads ! best thing i ever did was switch to braid hooklengths when fishing chesil during the day ![]() __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting

i used to use spiderwire in green - it was fairly rigid and didnt seem to kink . Any braid that you have lying about would work - breaking strain can obviously be increased massivley as the diameters are much smaller. I would only recommend braid for short hooklenghts on things like flappers otherwise i tie a standard snood but put a swivel join on it and finish the last 6 inches with braid ( if using say a pulley or up and over ) .. The spiders will eventually shred through it but your talking over the period of the day - NOT every other cast ![]() __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting
