| Bucks Mills and Woolacombe 29 Apr - 1st May Was on holiday with the family over the B/H weekend nr Bideford off the A39 so thought I'd pack a bit of light spinning kit in the hope of the odd chuck. Investigated the nearest bit of shoreline on arrival which was accessed via a lovely little village called Bucks Mills. Low tide looked promising with rocky access to some sandy little gullies you could drop into from some barnacle coated outcrops. After some intense negotiations with the boss I managed to wangle a couple of hours on the first afternoon to give some lures and wedges a try. Went back down to the mark around 4pm and was suprised to see how much the tide has completely swallowed the features I saw earlier which meant that I'd be retrieving my lures over the top of jagged stones so expected the odd loss. Luckily didnt lose owt but didnt catch jack either. Oh well, beats being a human ATM back at the holiday site. Up at first light the next morning for more of the same but unfortunatly more of the same results. Fortunatly was back to the site for 7am and no one had even noticed I'd gone which put me in credit for trying Woolacombe the next day which I duely did. Well I've never seen anyone fish the eastern-most side of Woolacombe (the bit where all the tourists congregate) probably with good reason as you have the best part of 1500 people staring at you like you have just walked past them with your c*ck out. What the hell, I thought I'd go around the rocks that join Baracane and fling a couple of feathers out with a 2oz wedge as a weight with optimism for a mackie or even better my first bass. Sadly nothing, but spinning into a beautiful surf beach with the sun on your face is one of lifes pleasures. Tight lines. __________________ 2012: None Lifetime: Codling, Grey Gurnard, Mackerel, Pollock, Pouting, Wrasse, Scad. |
