| Still searching for Rays Friday evening at 6pm Picked Chris and Mick up and headed off to Chale in search of those elusive rays. The weather was gorgeous, a warm evening no wind to speak of and the sea was flat calm. Met Lighty whilst walking along the beach, he'd fished it during the day and had a spotted ray, so things looked promising. Clip down rigs with sandeel were sent out as far as possible. ![]() Mick had some crab and not long after casting this out he had a good pull round and this starry smoothound of 2lb 4oz was his reward. ![]() That was a good start and we were hopeful of some good fish, the sun was setting fast and the cracking scenery and sunset didn't fail to impress. ![]() ![]() Well darkness arrived and the pout started so did the doggies, but no sign of our main quarry, the rays. I was getting some good takes close in but had trouble connecting to anything, though eventually did manage to land this hard fighting Pollock of a pound exactly. ![]() Things were very quiet though and just before high water around 3am the few bites we were getting stopped. As the tide started to ebb about 4am Mick had a nice slack line bite and the quarry was finally landed, a spotted ray of 2lb 14oz. ![]() Well we stayed till dawn but with no more bites we called it a reluctant night. __________________ 2011 species: 25 |
