Still searching for Rays

Friday evening at 6pm Picked Chris and Mick up and headed off to Chale in search of those elusive rays.
The weather was gorgeous, a warm evening no wind to speak of and the sea was flat calm. Met Lighty whilst walking along the beach, he'd fished it during the day and had a spotted ray, so things looked promising.
Clip down rigs with sandeel were sent out as far as possible.



Mick had some crab and not long after casting this out he had a good pull round and this starry smoothound of 2lb 4oz was his reward.



That was a good start and we were hopeful of some good fish, the sun was setting fast and the cracking scenery and sunset didn't fail to impress.





Well darkness arrived and the pout started so did the doggies, but no sign of our main quarry, the rays.
I was getting some good takes close in but had trouble connecting to anything, though eventually did manage to land this hard fighting Pollock of a pound exactly.



Things were very quiet though and just before high water around 3am the few bites we were getting stopped.
As the tide started to ebb about 4am Mick had a nice slack line bite and the quarry was finally landed, a spotted ray of 2lb 14oz.



Well we stayed till dawn but with no more bites we called it a reluctant night.
