for bait and points but not really for sport

heard of mackeral off our beaches at last
so 7pm this eve i dived out down to budliegh to see if could get some real fresh dogfish bait for tommorrow

had a few chucks with the feathers, bored, chatted to other guy hed had nowt
thought give it one more go, this time slowest retrieve posible to get lowest and bingo, first mackeral of year ( and points)

not a bad size and some fight on a 2lb carprod
next cast another
next cast lost feathers as trace broke

i really really hate feathering, but 3/4 hr ,2 fresh baits and points isnt too shabby

theres something about mackerel bashing thats ingrained into your brain .. to this day i can't describe the feeling when you 'pull back' on the rod and it goes solid and tries to pull you into the sea with 6 mackerel going nuts

I'm with S&M on this one. It's a nice feeling to hit into a full house of mackies, but it soon gets boring once the shoals move inshore in numbers. Well done on getting some early ones Dave....
