Danny text me the night before asking if i fancied another crack at the mullet that have started to show in the river. We arrived early in the flood but no fish were showing yet. We had brought afew worms along so we cast out for anything else that might be about and Dan had a decent bite on lug. Fish gave a good scrap on the light gear and soon Dan had a scrappy schoolie.

I then had one the size of my finger! We now had enough water to spin baited mepps and tried for the thin-lips that are usually around there. We had been doing it for 45 minutes or sowith no sign of them then suddenly I had one follow my lure and turn away at the last minute! We had several more follows and tried slowing down and speeding up but they just wouldn't take. It got frustrating so we started to try other methods. I had a schoolie on float fished bread while a pair of mullet ignored everything Dan chucked at them.

They were staying close to a pontton so I decided to freeline a harbour rag very close to it. The fish kept ignoring it but eventually one slowly swam up to the worm. It appeared to suck it in so I struck and shouted "Fish on" Cyril Chauquet style! It put up a great scrap at close quarters before Dan netted it.

It went 2lb 1oz a first thin lip and therfore a PB.
