No macky at Hive Took my nipper down to Dorset hoping for some mackeral, tried spinning with the wedge and made a few dozen casts with the feathers on the long rod but nothing doing! We didnt do any worse than anyone else while we were there, there were a lot of people fishing and a few of those were bottom fishing, plaice I assume. Stayed until 1830, we'd had 3 hours chill time but all good things come to an end. Roll on friday, 18 days off!! __________________ Species so far for 2012 Pike,Chub,Roach,Ruffe,Mackeral,Plaice, LSD,Pout

Re: No macky at Hive Myself and Chesil Chucker went over to bridging camp. As we were setting up I noticed a lot of surface activity close in, but as we were after an early hound I decided not to bother pursuing the Mackerel at that stage and set up my rod with fresh hermit. I did have a go about 15 minutes later and was rewarded with 3 Mackerel on my first two casts, before cracking off. They were out at range and they were deep, but there did seem a lot of them. __________________ Check my blog for a daily fishing forecast from Weymouth, Portland, Chesil Beach & Kimmeridge Bay. www.fishingtails.co.uk

Re: No macky at Hive I fished at Bexington on Sunday 17th. Weymouth Angling Centre`s flatfish open. Thats why there was so many bottom fishing. Boundaries were from Abbotsbury to Hive beach. I had 2 sizeable plaice and 1 dab. At the weigh-in there were some who had 5 or 6 fish! After the match, I went back to Bexy, and had half a dozen mackeral on daylight lures. ![]()

Re: No macky at Hive Is it me, or is this unusually early for the Mackerel to come in? Sounds like a trip this weekend has to be on the cards!

Re: No macky at Hive It is normal for the Mackerel to be in now but they are a long way out most of the time and they are deep. they arrive in huge shoals of 3 Million plus. If you can get amongst them you will bag up quickly. The shoals then start to break apart as the month progresses. Thats when you get periods of frantic activity then nothing for an hour. When I go out for Mackerel I normally bang a few casts out at 150yds or more to see if there is anything out there. If there is nothing I wait for the feather chuckers to do all the work and as soon as one of them is in I bang it out again and get as many fish as I want. (well at least I normally do, sometimes it doesn't go to plan) __________________ Check my blog for a daily fishing forecast from Weymouth, Portland, Chesil Beach & Kimmeridge Bay. www.fishingtails.co.uk
