Dover's Prince of Wales Pier 15th April 11

The Misses had work this afternoon and my Daughter was booked into nursery so I seized the opportunity to use the few worms which were left in the fridge from the other evening on the Eastern arm.

I popped down to the Prince of Wales pier with my 6 year old son Matthew. I never expected to catch anything worth substantial. I find the P.O.W can be quite poor on the fishing front but it is a very comfortable pier and good for children.

I arrived on the pier at about 13:00. High water: 21:00. Low water: 1500 ish. I fished untill 16:30.

I fished 3 rods. A boat rod with a 1/o 3 hook paternoster rig down the wall, a beach caster with a 1/o 2 hook flapper and a bass rod with a size 2 hook running ledger with loads of bling, I was hoping for a flat fish for the species hunt.

I was using lug worm tipped with squid on the bass rod and beach caster. I used some bluey that fishypaul gave me for down the wall.

I Caught a Scorpion fish down the wall. I was made up with that for the species hunt. I caught a second one a little later in exactly the same way, not as big as the first.

I also caught a pin whiting which was mottled and looked like a tiny coding but I think it was whiting.

I also managed to catch 2 whelks together on the 2 hook flapper, they were munching the lug and squid! They had the hooks right inside their shell.

I never caught a flatfish but see one swim right past where I was fishing, it looked like a Turtbot.
The guy next to us caught a flounder. I asked if he had anything else, he said he hadn’t.

I didn’t see much being caught down there.
It was a nice afternoon all the same.

All the best.
Jason

I was just a few pegs down.
Were you using a blue max on a spinning rod down the wall.
That was the only thing I noticed up that far!

Yeah, I blanked earlier this week, wasnt fun! The P.O.W can be a bit slow but it is very comfortable, even the cafe was open today.
Im working then so can't pop down.
Alll the best.

I think I'm free that day so should be able get down there with a bit of luck, if you are after species you want small hooks and mainly Rag as bait
