Going to Hillhead for Thornies on Monday I am dropping my kids of at the outlaws in Fareham on Monday, so I thought I would give Hillhead a go for a Thornback. Any advice on best state of the tide and best bait for them. I have fished Hillhead loads of times in the past but never for Thornies. __________________ Check my blog for a daily fishing forecast from Weymouth, Portland, Chesil Beach & Kimmeridge Bay. www.fishingtails.co.uk

Re: Going to Hillhead for Thornies on Monday Every Solent thornie I have caught has taken crab and most of the best local anglers who do well for them say it's the best bait especially large softbacks. They also like bluey fillet, ragworm takes a few but also attracts all the smaller fish like pout and schoolies. Early part of the flood seems to produce the most fish but they could turn up all through the flood and over high. Weed might be a big problem on Monday as it's a very big tide.

Re: Going to Hillhead for Thornies on Monday Having taken some advice from you guys on here, it seems that my best chance of a Thorny will not be when I am around, but I will give it a shot none the less. Better to have tried and blanked than never tried at all. Hey, I think I might make that my new epitaph lol. __________________ Check my blog for a daily fishing forecast from Weymouth, Portland, Chesil Beach & Kimmeridge Bay. www.fishingtails.co.uk
