Samphire Hoe 11th Aprill 11

Fished the Hoe with my Mum and Son.
We set up about 200 meters from the rampway down from the cafe towards the Dover side where perry buoy 13 is situated. It was still fairly snaggy there but not as snaggy as the folkestone end where I fished last time.

We were fishing by Midday, high water was at 16:00.
Both my Mum and myself used two rods with 1/o pully rigs baited with lug and squid.
We used pebbles as weights again. (I posted some pics showing the pebble weights in the rigs and tips section of the forum).

We diddnt get a bite for hours, it was painfull. I tried using a boat rod with a 3 hook paternoster rig down the wall with all different baits. Tried muscles, mackeral, lug n squid, sandeel and squid heads but diddnt get even a bite.

A bloke who had driven down from london came to see if we fished there regulary. He had been there all morning and hadn't caught anything.

Another group of anglers arrived at about 13:00 and set up a little way from us. I never see them catch anything either.

I tried spinning with a dexter wedge, a red shad on a jig head and a blue popper, Still diddnt get anything.

I tried a fload for half an hour but the wind picked up at about 15:00 so I gave up with that and continued trying to spin.

Then when we had given up all hope my mum caught a little wrasse and a small pouting within about half an hour of each other.
I had started to pack away, I kept a rod out till the bitter end but diddnt get anything, I blanked. First time since I started back a year ago! Out fished by my Mum!

Well done J`s mum!!! First time you blanked in a year!! Thats good going mate, you only been fishing a year? From your previous reports and knowlage I would have thought you were a seasoned pro!!

I fished as a teenager then quit when I discovered women and beer! I have a few good friends who are seasoned pros who give me alot of advice and I have really swatted up this time. Im still learning though. Thanks for the complement.

It may seem strange, but women seem to be able to catch more fish than men, when it does not involve casting long distances.

Not sure if they try to charm them or not but I have seen it happen so many times.
