| Or the night I slept with Taffy ![]() Best get a coffe this is a long report ;-) Last night was the clubs exe cup comp( a 12 hour overnighter) Venue was between Branscombe and Weston , I must admit I really wasn’t sure what to do about the comp, Do I ? Don’t I? how long ? etc, especially as had been hanging all day after a good and very late night out with Mrs P the night before , also I have 2 passes for mon and tues pm/eve as she says “best get some fishing in before she goes away with work next 6 months ” So decided in the end that would give Branscombe a few hours in eve and then try to get back and try for a plaice in morning, so with a half loaded tackle box and flask and light waterproofs off I went Meeting at Weston carpark met up with the others and especially good mate Taffy( who regulary leads me astray and on merry jaunts) so it was with him having a shelter and snacks I found myself yomping down to Weston ![]() Not unsurpriseingly we had the beach too ourselves and it was lovely( some of these picks taken from morning as eve ones too dimpsey) ![]() ![]() There were a couple of target fish, huss being one, an early ray over low maybe but def plaice in morning 1 rod was big crab bait on 3/0 either bass or huss or early hound, other 2 hook clipped down size 1 worm tipped squid or sandeel Soon the bites started, my first in was a double shot off huss( with 2 total colour differences) ![]() Then more huss all on the smaller bait rod though eventually getting 2 in size ![]() Meanwhile taff was into dogs in a big way And soon so was I, quickly bagging 2 in size to weigh in , the sky was fantastic as there is zero light pollution there and the sky was totally clear I then had an odd bite and thought” poxy eel” only to find first bass of year, even if only a schoolie a welcome sight ![]() I then wrangled out a massive 4oz pout , just in size though The eve then went into pretty much a war of attricion against the dogs, they were everywhere We both pulled rods in for an hour at 3 and tried for an hours kip, not easy when already cold and on damp cold shingle and No!! ( even if he spreads the rumours ) we didn’t snuggle up for warmth however much taff wanted too ![]() 4 o clock and it was properly cold and sleep just wasnt happening , both ˝ awake so rods out and time for more dogs Till the first break of light when out went the bling and worm rigs for a plaice ![]() ![]() But the dogs kept comeing, apart from this tiny seatrout which was a surprise but we were fishing by the freshwater outlet from the river I guess ![]() We fished on till 8.30 when we had to go to get to the weigh in, no plaice were harmed on this trip by our hooks despite all out efforts Only down side to the daylight we could see the maywater starting already ![]() ![]() The climb up was a killer as ever ( 25 mins down = 40 mins back) ![]() Where I found I had narrowly scraped 3rd place with that pout, brian won with similar but rockling as well, 4 people actually did the all night, and no one saw any plaie So a massive thanks to taff for supplying me with bourbon biscuits, lucozade and bacon fries, and you are a star, but I don’t think I’ll be fishing tonight Beer1 dave __________________ www.exmouthsaa.co.uk 24 beers in a case and 24 hours in a day simples You won't know unless you go :D...and if you do go!! please let us know :D as thats how the forum thrives Last edited by pingu; 04-03-2011 at 03:36 PM. |

| Re: 11 and 1/2 hours @ the home of the dogs The Sea Trout you caught looks like one that is on its way out of the river. Sea Trout are Brown Trout that migrate to the sea. I have never seen one caught on its way out. Well done and nice report. __________________ Check my blog for a daily fishing forecast from Weymouth, Portland, Chesil Beach & Kimmeridge Bay. www.fishingtails.co.uk |
