| After missing out on a trip to Gilkicker on Tuesday due to traffic delays and not being able to get bait , i ended up in Southampton on Wednesday day time and decided a stock up on frozen baits was in order 30 quid later i was on my way home and got the car packed for a trip to Milford to fish the shingle bank.. On arrival everything was perfect .. tide, tide time, sea state and even the slight NE wind .. It had Ray written all over it ..IF they had settled in the area ( it was an exploratory trip with the sole intention to target the rays and nothing else ) ..![]() Armed with freshly frozen herring, red ammo eels and bluey ,plus some party squid me and Billy were set up and ready to go just as darkness came and about half an hour before high water .. I wasn't expecting much action untill about an hour after the turn of the tide but thought it wouldn't harm to whack a couple of baits out in the meantime . The weed was the usual ginger chewbacca bum hair type stuff and was gathering nicely around the leader knot and any other part of the trace it could find but wasn't by any means unbearable ,infact it was expected to be there untill the start of the ebb when it almost vanished ..well .. 11 pm , not as much as a sniff , not an attack from pin whiting or even a visit from our clawed friends .. perfectly penelled sandeel and fish cocktails came back every 25 minutes but i wasn't about to change tact ..Billy was fishing with 1 rod for the rays and one for anything else that was about and hit into a small and welcome first pollack of the year on small sections of sandeel .. ![]() ( At around 8.30 we were joined on the bank by a group of anglers , adults and atleast half a dozen juniors on what i expect was a junior match .. we had set up about 100 yards to the left of the rocks - they continued further up the bank just towards the bend ) No claims of any fish were made as they trundled past on their way home at around midnight and the 2 guys fishing to the right of the rocks had a similar fishless result ![]() Penelled sandeel and fish wraps continued to come back everytime and by 1.15 am we were running out of water and patience with the lack of action so decided to call it quits .. A session diggin is on the cards for Saturday and then a trip to West Bexington on Sunday where i hope thing might be a bit more interesting ! Im already looking forward to the next good tide for Milford and am sure in a months time sport should have improved and the chance of my small eyed being a foregone conclusion ! __________________ Shore Species 2012: Dab-Flounder-Herring-L.S.Dogfish-Pouting-Shore Rockling-5 Bearded Rockling-Small Eyed Ray-Turbot-Whiting |
