Budliegh 2/3/11

last night was the good old monthly comp

as still in fishing doldrums here on south coast we didnt venture too far away so good old budliegh it was

5 hardy souls braved what was a lovely evening iff not a tad parky in the northerly wind

baggie and shane hit the ottermouth end, rst just went over the bank

well for me it was properly frustrateing with Paul to my right hauling in pout and dogs and ken to my keft getting bites and pout, me = diddly/nadder/squit

baggie and shane were signalling france with the bonfire they had made and were into rockling alley

last chance saloon saw me bring in the smallest rockling i've ever caught

so in the end paul took the evening easily with 24 points, me well i blanked for the comp
but a lovely night out with great shooting star display

i feel the fish getting closer and a early ray hunt i think is on the cards very soon

and forgot to add, loveing the lfact local is open till 12, so blagged a pint on way home

Have you fished Hillhead in April for the thornies? I was thinking of giving it a go this year when I need to come down to see the in-laws.

Don't think I got a ray from there in about 5 attempts.
last time I fished it there was thunder & lightning & we packed up early.
Pretty place though.

Unlucky Dave .. i was out at Gosport and the wind was horrific !! seem to be way too much Easterly in it and it wasn an effort just to re bait ..
needless to say my result was very similar

PP - the wall at Hillhead is a regular haunt for us and one of Lees favourite outdoor swimming areas lol - tho normally its the smutts that are the target .
My whole quest this year is to catch two sizeable rays of different flavours and will be putting in the hours as soon as the reports start to show fish on the solent marks

It was a cracking night in the end, not a cloud in the sky, which meant it was cold but we had a great view of the many shooting stars that were on display. Shame then that the fish never read the script.

Shane managed 3 rockling, whilst I had to settle for a 3 Bearded rockling and a Long Spined Bullhead.

Good effort fellas, not long now untill Bream, Rays , Bass , Mackerel , and all the other summer species start to show.
