| Re: too restless Wow. Now that is what you call restless. I did speak with Andy in Weymouth Angling Centre yesterday. He says that there are still some Codling being caught, but that they are only coming from the deep water marks like bridging camp and Langton Herring. Nothing from the accessible parts of the beach. Other then dogfish and pout, have you ever caught anything on Black Lug? I have tried it loads of times and to me it just seems like a waste of money. | Re: too restless up until last year when i caught one on crab, all of my cod/codling have come to lug or lug/squid cocktails i'm more confident when useing lug for cods but i would think that pealer or hermit has the edge, especially over rocky/broken ground with lug ive had less variety of fish compared to rag, froze lug is easier to obtain & store for me being well in land. to be honest i don't think that bucketmouth cod are that fussy, if its food they'll eat it. on chesil the black tends to slow the relentless onslaught of dogfish, though last night one would have been welcome ![]() last night was spent mostly clearing old baits from the freezer, the squid had seen better days & most of my lug stock is now that oiled stuff, its a lot tougher than standard froze worm but the jury's still out for me as to how effective it is. though it was , i trhink part of the offering that took my pb cod the other year. the alternetive last night was to fish a riseing tide in the solent for 6am highwater, which sounded a better opotion but fishing the solent without any ragworm as ever, for me, seemed unappealing especially at this scratchy time of year __________________ beer so many venues, so little time. |

I know Dungeness rather better. When there is a SW Gale, black lug (and seamice and slipper limpet) get thrown onto the shingle at high tide. If you are there at the right time, you can get bass, various flats, codling and whiting all on black lug. In the good old days, good cod on seamice. When you have a gale at Chesil, do you get stuff like black lug thrown onto the beach ? If so, it is the right bait and the right time to use it. __________________ RNLI Governor Nothing matters very much, few things matter at all - Plato ...only things like fresh bait and cold beer - Vagabond |

| Re: too restless i don't ever see much in the way of bait thrown up along the bank after a storm , all the rubbish & flotsam from lyme bay along with lumps of sea peat, cuttle bone & the odd dead fish, but never any worm or shellfish. __________________ beer so many venues, so little time. |
