Hamble River and Netley beach last night

Decided to fish the Hamble River on saturday night with a mate out on the boat. Armed with a large bucket of freshly dug rag we were both hopeful of at least a few school bass. As it turned out after about 3 hours without a single bite and plagued with crabs we decided to knock it on the head. Still left with loads of bait i made a decision to fish netley from the beach last night.


We started fishing about 17:45 last night (high tide 19:40) and for the first hour not a bite. I was beginning to wonder if it was going to be another one of those nights when i noticed a slight tap on one my rods. I left the bite a few minutes to develop and then reeled in a small flounder. After that our rod tips started going crazy as we hit in to some hungry school bass.

Every cast produced a bite and i managed to catch 5 bass in total, all reasonably small and my mate caught just 1. (probably something to do with his rusty hooks!) Just as we thought we were going to be in for a night of non stop action the weather took a turn for the worse and it began to hammer it down and blow a gale so we decided to call it a night. We left about 20:15.

Although we could have probably caught more i was happy that i had caught something and that some fish were back in numbers at last. Just wasn't in the mood for getting soaked!
