| Quick Chesil trip The recent S/W winds had kicked up a nice bit of colour on Chesil and with the wind backing round to the East and dropping off, I asked my mate Roger (Chesil Chucker) if he fancied a few hours on Wednesday night. We met at checkpoint and found that a few more anglers also had the same idea. A couple mentioned that a few Cod had been caught the night before, but to be honest none of the reports came from reputable sources, and the norm is that Chesil doesn't fish from January until March. We set up in lovely conditions with very little wind and a clear sky. Bait was Rag, live Hermit and Squid. I was pretty sure we wouldn't get any Cod, but I put out a big bait in case there was a straggler. Conditions looked perfect for Pout and Dogfish as Roger soon found out as within seconds of his bait hitting the water his rod tip started rattling. First fish of the night a small Poor Cod and a start to our species hunt. ![]() Quite a few more followed and I was surprised by the size of them. In fact they were so big I had to check carefully that some of them were not Pout. We even had one that must have gone about 1/2 lb, which for a Poor Cod is pretty big. After about 2 hours I noticed a slack line bite and got all excited. Unfortunately it was the arrival of the doggies. Still it was nice to get something and another few points. ![]() Unfortunatly as I only had permission for a short session we had to pack up early, which was a shame as we both felt like giving it a few more hours. I am now fairly certain that we wont see many more Codling come from Chesil till October now. But the Plaice will be in soon. | Re: Quick Chesil trip Good report, shame no cod showed but as you said they would've been an unexpected bonus anyway. Can you expect to catch plaice in any numbers from Chesil when they arrive? I only started venturing down that neck of the woods last season for codling and now love fishing there. Only downside is the drive with derv at £1.34 a litre! |
