Talking Town Quay - first of 2011 ( 19th Jan )

After a few days of hair pulling and basically goin nuts it was decided that town quay was a good a place as any to get the season kicked off, so with bait arranged through Lee, plus meeting times arranged between Bill and Danny we found ourselves back at the spiritual home and really without any idea if even a solitary fish would play ball

7pm and strangely we were the only ones fishing - by god was it cold last night ( even the bait that was out to thaw stayed like rock ) !

On the flood Lee was first to hit into a small pout so atleast we knew there was something feeding and armed with rag and squid baits we all made an assault in an attempt to save a blank AND record a species for the comp !
Bill was soon into Pout too as well as a pout for Danny , followed i think by a schoolie Bass for Lee ( onother early first ticked off the list )

Bass rods had been deployed by the lads but i was having none of it and instead decided to hone my skills hunting down that elusive quarry - the Whiting

First fish of 2011 , exactly the same as the last one of 2010 but blank saved and species number 3 for the night

With everyones mind on the large amounts of sausages and bacon in the back of Bills motor it wasnt long before the smell was wafting along the quay and we were all tucking into some monster rolls and steaming hot drinks

Then I had an AA moment ( no not the Alcohol people rather the motoring lot ) as a nipper and his young lass had managed to be right dullards sitting on the quay and completely flattening the car battery .After trying to get him to bump start it down the hill ( poor lad didnt have a clue ) it was time to deploy the jump leads , which subsequently snapped as soon as i pulled them out the box .. So stood there holding onto one end on Bills battery and praying my wellies were gonna save me from a frying we soon had them on their way and it was back to the fishing .

We were all into pout by now and i had managed 3 or 4 more whiting ( strangely Lee was doing his best to avoid the species ) , but it was Bills turn to pull a trump card and as we all watched him reel in and noticing the bend in the rod - yep Pout on the top .. and much to LEEs delight , a cracking fat Flounder on the bottom which went exactly 1lb on the scales

This made Bills night and the jokes began in earnest - i think at one point Lee was contemplating ending it all and jumping off the end

more Pout were deployed from Dannys live bait tub but remained unmolested .
A triple shot was Dannys highlight of the night - not only 3 fish at once , but THREE different species at the time ,- something i've never seen before

Pout,Bass and Whiting scored off the card and then as the tide ebbed we stood discussing the various methods of destroying seagulls with plans of night nurse and baking soda giving us all a fit of hysterics !
With everyone in the fish atleast i decided to pack up and head on the 30 minute journey back up the road ( now around 4 am ) ..
Not sure if anything spectaculare happened after i left but im sure Lee will fill in the blanks as well as the photos once he gets here

Great first trip of the year , great company as always and a perfect start to what will no doubt be a bumper fishing year

well steve a great write up mate and really i can`t add to it except that we all packed up about half an hour after you left. i dont think i will bother getting night nurse for the gulls, i need it for myself, anyway as steve said it was a cracking night great food and as usual outstanding company. until next time lads.

Re: Town Quay - first of 2011 ( 19th Jan )

Met up with steve , bill and danny last night for a bash at anything , thoughts of a blank were on the cards as no where local is fishing very good at the mo , but it was far from it , bite a chuck from the mini species all night long , kept us busy in the freezing weather anyway 2 new species for the year from me , resulting in pout and bass ...........

also this kept us warm and full up all night long with bacon and sausage sandwiches , hot tea and coffee , hot bovril couldnt ask for more ...............

Bill broke the cycle , with a cracking flounder that gave a brilliant account of itself ..............

well it was a very busy night with pout , bass ,whiting and the solitary flounder cracking session and i dont think ive laughed as much as i did last night for a long time , cheers lads it was a scream

packed up at 4.30 am this morning , this is how bad the frost was last night ................

Defrost the car and head off , i was glad to be home and in a nice warm bed

lee.
