| Its a long story but we had bait on order at Dover but wanted to fish Folkestone Pier for the Dabs (to try out Jamie's recipe) so drove past Folkestone to Dover picked up the bait and drove back to Folkestone again had Breakfast in the cafe and humped all the tackle to the pier only to find it was shut for a comp so drove back to Dover and fished the POW . Had a good day , Christened my new reel and caught my first 2 species for the year Dab and Whiting One of my brothers was with us and he fluked a Sprat , Ballen Wrasse and a Shanny as well as the Dab and Whiting so he is now in front on the family comp , only glad he doesn't do the forum comps ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| Re: Its a long story but Well done on getting started. I bet you wish you have some of your brothers luck. In all the time I have been fishing, I have never landed a Sprat before. | Re: Its a long story but Great effort. Slightly off topic but I was having a debate with my Father-in-law the other day about the origin of "whitebait". I was always under the impression whitebait were Sprats but he was convinced "whitebait" was just a name given to any small fry for the table. __________________ 2012: None Lifetime: Codling, Grey Gurnard, Mackerel, Pollock, Pouting, Wrasse, Scad. |
