Chesil (Ferrybridge) 7/12/10

Bit of a late report this one due to technical problems and general busyness. I headed down to a bitterly cold Chesil for probably the last cod session of the year. I had blacks, hermit and squid for the cod and a few fishy bits out of the freezer to hopefully sort out some better whiting.

I was set up with the tide in the early flood with about 45 minutes of daylight left and first chuck saw a double shot of small pout. They were the pattern for the first hour or so until I missed a better bite on sandeel towards the end of the flood. As it was prime time for codling I'd sent out a nice hermit bait for them on one but persisted with double sandeel on the other due to the decent bite.

Sat in the buddy watching my rods and rubbing my hands together for warmth I was soon on my feet. The sandeel rod pulled right over and stayed there! No missing this bite and I felt a decent fish on, it felt like it went to ground for a bit but a bit of pressure freed it. A couple of hairy moments in the swell later I had my target on the bank, a codling of 2lb 2oz.

I stayed on over high and halfway down the ebb with only a few poor cod to show and packed in about 1230. Not a sign of a whiting or a dogfish all night which I didn't expect. Without the codling it would've been an awful session but with it, it has to go down as a good one. Probably my last night session for a good few months now though.

Well bud at least it wasnt a waist of time and at least you caught something, Look at it this way you ended 2010 with a fish on your last session so 2011 can only be the better year mate.

I've had a quick day session and blanked since then!

Probably be another day blank to come now that the flounder have moved on from my banker mark!

Re: Chesil (Ferrybridge) 7/12/10

Nice Codling Bassmanrob.

That is pretty much the average size of the fish that we have had on Chesil this year. It has been one of my best years for numbers, but as of yet I have had nothing bigger then a couple of pounds.

I had also noted the lack of doggies this winter, though I have had some really nice Whiting.

Well done on getting out.

It's only been this week when we have been learning about Chesil beach in school in our Geography classes. Pretty interesting place.
