| Abbotsbury 22/11/10 I finally had enough time for my second (and first night) session at Chesil. Cod and a few decent whiting were my targets and Abbotsbury was the venue. I walked up to the dragons teeth to find one other there, looking back the car-park section was packed. I was set up and ready to go by nightfall and could see my neighbour already busy. It was bites from the off with swarms of whiting and dogs. It was very busy and hard to keep two baits out. Had a decent bite and felt a lot of resistance, turned out to be a monster whiting that came in backwards although hooked fairly in the mouth, a new PB. 1lb 5oz. ![]() That PB lasted all of about 30 minutes as I soon had another of 1lb 6oz. I was releasing the whiting that could go back but soon had enough for a couple of decent meals. The 1lb 5oz fish is the longest in the photo, the 1lb 6oz although a good 3 or 4 inches shorter is in the middle.Shame the top one wasn't as fat! ![]() The action slowed a bit on the ebb but I was still busy, the whiting were smaller now and the were more dogs and the odd poor cod. I'd tried blacks, squid, sandeel, blues and cocktails of them all but still no cod. I still had the last of my frozen peelers which I was saving for the new flood. It came and out they went, it was later and I started to pack up ready for the long drive. The crab baits had been out for a good 15 minutes with no interest. I stuffed the last of my gear into the bag had a last glance at the rod.....the cod nod! I ran down, another little nod then slack, wound into it and a satisfying bend in the rod and something headshaking. My first cod of the year was soon on the bank weighing exactly 2lb. ![]() I had to have another cast after that but nothing else. A really enjoyable busy session and it's lovely being a Solent angler not to see a single piece of weed all night! Got back to the car and driving up the lane it didn't feel or sound right. Bleedin' puncture so had to taker all the gear out the boot and do a tyre change in the lane at 4am |
