hamble river flounder run 6/11/10

this little comp is between a load of us that work on the river and on saterday we had quite a good turn out with 29 entred, all in serch of the elusive flounder.

7.30 it kicked off and we head up river to start. it was bass after bass but al of them were small. by 9am pete rang me and the first flounder had been had at ashlet but it was tiny (10in long) then we heard anohter was had on another boat at ashlet again(no idea of size). as theweather improved to this fine veiw of the river.

i was starting to think we made a bad move staying in the river but by 10am i had a classic flattie knock, so i cracked open a can sat back and waited. as i finished my can i reeled in a little flounder of 12 in long. i was torn whether to chuck it back or not as it was so small, but we filled the cool box up with water and kept it alive just incase.

as slack water came we desided to move for a mullet to try for heavest other fish, so back to the mooring and straght away i had a nice late little mullet of 3lb ish, defo no monster but in it went in to our aquarium with the flattie and a few crabs by now...lol.

next we tryed again for a flounder on another spot very close to the mooring but it was more tiny bass. before we knew it, it was 12.30 and lines in and back to mercury to weigh in.
when we got there we could see the was 3 other flounders, 1 mullet and 7 fair sized bass. and it was bloody close for the flounders.

4th 7oz
3rd 8oz
1st & 2nd 12oz

k'in hell ,i was joint 1st with that tiny flounder i nearly chucked back....lol so we split the money and are going to share the throphy 6 month each
and what a cracking throphy it is to, made by lee at work who's son has won it the last 2 years

as for heavest other fish

4th 2lb 12oz bass
3rd 3lb bass
2nd 3lb 2oz mullet............me
1st 4lb 12oz mullet

so i missed out on that one, but that would have been greedy...lol
nearly all the fish were returned alive apart from the bass.
so all in all very hard to find the flounders and its becoming a real shame the way the mud munchers are getting wiped out.
but a great day out and finished off with a cracking piss up after around hamble, but not so sure my missus thought so @ 1am in the morning when i fell though the door a dribbling mess....ooppss..lol
