the holiday report days 4,5&6

didnot fish day 4 or 5 as the wind had got up and swung to the south + god awful rain.

with bait stocks replenished with some squid/ mackerel and pealer ( all frozen)
i'd planned on gettting to sharkham point 1st and claiming the best ledge but i decided against that due to the strong wind + i could see a guy already on ther best/safest spot so it was back to berryhead and a bit of shelter, mind you the wind did gust a bit so i took care on the edge of the platform.
as i arrived at about 12.45 there were 3 other anglers there fishing to the right of the platform , one of them landed a codling as i was setting up which cheered me up

shortly afterward they left one by one leaving me alone on the platform with another angler fishing from the high wall t'other side of the lookout,+ a few towards 'scarey ledge'
& so i shifted along to the right hand corner where i was monday night.
i had the awb fishing a 6/0 pulley at distance and the spinning rod scratching first with a 3 hook flapper , then a bit of lure fishing then back to the flapper which i lost and swapped for a flowing trace armed with a size 6 'desperate measures hook'
all was quiet. i'd scavenged some fresh bits of pealer legs & old baits to go with my frozen pealer + some razors left scattered on the platform.

near low tide i had a knock on the scratching rod and caught a specie i've not had for years in the form of a dragonet-

sometime later i noted a knock on the awb which i left to develop , but it didn't.
however 5 mins later i noticed that the line had swung down tide, so a retrieve found a dead weight on the end and this time it wasn't a bunch of mussels-

undersized but he liked them crabsnsquidnrazor crammed on a 6/0 ,that was the target, job done

the one i'd seen earlier was a simalar size and the angler on my right, up on the wall, had another some time later.

as the tide turned another two groups of anglers joined me on the platform the 1st 3 fishing light tackle were catching pollock in close which inspired me to drop the scratching rod down the side to see whats about

1st up was a tompot blenny, a new specie for me and not one ive targeted b4-

then came a goldsinny

from a different venue this time

then one of the other anglers asked me to identify one of their catches which turned out to be a cuckoo wrasse- nice one

i tried desperately to get one myself but all i got was -

blenny

and more blennys

as darkness fell the daylight species quit as did the first group of anglers leaving me on the quay with the last 3 to turn up fighting for the few night species that were about, just pout/poor cod and a few sizeable whiteing
i managed to miss a good bite to a whole mackerel fillet but caught myself a couple of whiteing for breakfast
