Wink Milford on Sea 21 Oct 2010

Decided to get out for the second time this week and use up what bait i had left from Tuesday so armed with about 50 lug , a bluey , sandeels and half a box of squid the decision was made to steer clear of the rat race at Pagham and Hayling and head due south through the forest to one of my favourite destinations ..
Instead of setting up by the beach huts i decided to go just left of the cafe on a nice open stretch away from any obvious snags ...

this pic was taken during glorious weather last Sunday of the same spot -

Tide was on the last 90 minutes of the flood when i arrived and my concerns when i left the house were that both the size of the tide and the weed might cause me a few problems ..

My weapon of choice -

First cast resulted in a response within 10 minutes and i duly wound in a nice Dog on a sandeel and bluey wrap , then was into a hit on the worm and a sizeable whiting was despatched for the Mrs' tea later

The moon was fighting with the cloud cover that was doing its best to hide it but it was almost like putting clingfilm over a torch ! .. As the moon got brighter the fishing slowed to a halt and the next hour was spent removing weed from traces - the beach at one stage looked like chewbacca had shaved his ass on the spot i was fishing ..
Nothing unpleasant and not a hindrance on the rods so i was confident the ebb would be a doddle

The Needles (I.O.W) but a stones throw across the pond -

High water and it was time to put the kettle on , a bit of Toto and other rock delights on the music player and sat there watching a peculiar sight out in the Solent.. I can only assume it was an army/marine exercise as x-wing fighters ( well in the dark thats what i imagined them as ) shot past towards the mothership docked somewhere off Poole - all evenly spaced , all with the same lights glowing .. 4 at a time they shot past and dissapeared in to the night ..
As the tide started to ebb the weed almost totally vanished ( the first hour was quite bad as it swept through ) and another whiting put in an appearance to end up in the dinner fund ..

3 nice whiting for the table -

The moon was by now mahoosive and right overhead , one more whiting and after a final hour of retrieving unmolested baits i decided grudgingly to call it a night ( now 3a.m ).. I had sat in just a hoodie all night , the wind from the west was only slight and there was no sign of any cold in the air .
Sheep sleeping in the road, horses playing chicken with my car and a badger scurrying into the undergrowth were the delights for the trip back home through the New Forest .. Nothing massive, just like Tuesday with an almost identical result .. thats fishing , and i'd gladly do it all again tonight

Sounds like a cracking night there, and some fish to keep the better half in a smile for a second or 2
