| Those damn easterlies. Yarmouth I.O.W. Arrived on saturday around about 17.00. We were booked into 1 of the boathouses that lies of Fort Victoria. We were in no.3 which looks straight onto the beach. We walked into town which was about 1 mile and bought some bait from the local chandlery/tackle shop. We got frozen mackerel and ammo sandeels. Got back to the boathouse to set up and was inundated with fishermen setting up for a comp right outside my front door and all along the beach as far as the eye could see .So set up anyway.the tidewas a big one due about 01.00ish so i set up a pennel rig 1ft paternoster with 1/0 and 2/0 aberdeens on the pier rod tied to a 5oz brekaway. On the mackeral went and fired it out towards the old pier about 25yds out. Set up the beach rod to fish about 100yds out and fished 2 sandeels on a flowing trace of 3 ft again tied to 5oz breakaways. Was expecting good action on the flood and was not surprized to pull in a 3lbs bass on the short rod. This is going to be great. That was the last action of the night due to the easterlies blowing in a mountain of weed through the area.Even popping up my mackerel and fishing shorter couldnt find another bite.As for the comp. i was later told that the catches were poor apart from the odd schoolie pout and pollock. So if id have been in it id have won .Any way the next day (Sun) was much the same weather wise. Almost impossible to fish due to weed. Bright sunny day. force 4 wind into your face and a waste of time. I always find night time flood more productive anyway. Fished another heavy tide and eaterlies until about midnight for a small pollock. Moday. Lovely day for a walk Bright sunshine and chill wind again. fished the back of the ebb after it had calmed down a bit but knew from the outset it was going to be tough tiny ballen wrasse for my efforts but a least not a blank. fished the evening till about midnight again and blanked There was a pattern forming with the wind/weed/tide/no fish conditions![]() Tuesday. Still a bit blowy so we went out for the day but fished the evening tide till about 1ish and blanked.I need some rag as a walk along the front into Yarmouth and speaking to my fellow sufferer's proved that the fish were right under my nose about 10-20 yds out.Just small stuff pout pollock wrasse ect. but maybe the chance of a bass so tommorow im heading into newport to scotties. wednesday. went out to Robbin hill for the day and on the way back picked up the aforementioned ragworms.had much improved results from that night onwards although you really have to hold your rod all the time the bites were that fast. I missed all of them until i started to hold my rod the only missed half of them . 2pout 2pollock and a stange fish that i later found out to be a rockling of about 3/4 lb. my first specimen of the week![]() Thursday. day off Friday. last day so fished late afternoon till bait ran out at 10ish caught a nice ballen of about 2lbs and some pout during the day and a schoolie and a huge crab (not an eater ) at night.IN CONCLUSION. A good mark with the right wind conditions. Best bait ragworm and mackerel. Best tactic fish in close and hold your rod.most productive part of the tide . early flood. Will be back better prepared with the right bait and stepped up gear. ![]() __________________ I'D RATHER HAVE A BOTTLE IN FRONT OF ME THAN A FRONTAL LABOTOMY |
