A change of pace

The sky tv engineer turned up early at mine and finished installing my HD earlier than expected leaving me with a free afternoon. Quick check of the tides revealed I could have a couple of hours of the flood tide to fish. I chucked some gear in the car, headed to Al's for 30 worm and set up at a favourite spot on the Itchen. Target was flounder and I was fishing very light with 2 spinning rods, 10lb line and 1oz bullet weights.

I set up and cast out and before I could sit down one rod was banging away. A tiny schoolie was the culprit. This pattern continued for the first hour and a half or so and I lost count of how many I had. Was good fun though as all the bites look good on the light gear at close range. At the top of the tide I had a real thumping pull round bite that stayed round. Struck into it and the fish gave a great account of itself on the light tackle, a bigger schoolie that went 1lb 2oz.

Things slowed down a bit over high with the odd bite still rattling the tips. Felt a weight on the retrieve that woke up when it got closer in and off the bottom. Could only be (just for Cuckoo).....

Probably only about 8-10oz but target achieved! Soon after I had a repeat but a similar sized flounder dropped off before I got it to the surface. Last cast I had a liitle bonus for my species count, a Common Goby I think?

No monsters but a fun session for a couple of hours in the sunshine.
