| what a night out! ok my trip started at around 3pm i visited the tackle shop got bait and a few more leads and headed off down hopes nose in search of the codling. after my 10 mins walk down the hill i finally got to the mark i was going to fish and noticed how clear the water was! you could see the bottom in the gully's with no problem at all. anyway setup my stuff flung a couple baits out and sat back and waited....and waited....and waited a bit more.... the wind began to pick up from the south and i had already seen the forecast of a force 6 southerly wind so with no bites i decided to move round the other side and fish from mackeral point i got round there and found a couple guys already fishing on the point. after 10 mins or so of chatting the it turned out the guys were just leaving they had caught dogs whiting and pout and mackeral on the feathers! so firstly i got out my float rod and after about 20 mins i caught myself a mackeral. ![]() http://www.seafishingonline.com/copp...e.php?pos=-580 after a few mins more i caught another then another and ended up with 7 by the time it got dark. i then switched my attention too the bottom rods and caught a few dogs before i caught myself something im not sure i can add to my species hunt. ![]() http://www.seafishingonline.com/copp...e.php?pos=-579 then next i caught myself a few pout and a poor cod! ![]() http://www.seafishingonline.com/copp...e.php?pos=-581 then this is when the spooky bit comes.. remember the other night when i got scared out of my wits by a fox? well tonight i got scared again but it wasnt a fox. i had a good bite lifted into what seemed like a good fish and slowly thinking to myself this could be a good whiting or maybe that elusive codling i switch on my head torch lit up the water and waited to see what i had. it was a pair of largish pout....but oh...what is that behind them reflecting back at me! oh my...its a pair of eyes!...noooo its a seal...i wound like hell and managed to get everything ashore before the seal could snatch the pout but by gosh did he give me a fright. anyway the fishing went quite for the next hour (possibly something to do with the seal) the tide began rising and i was getting bored so i picked up the float rod and tossed it out and caught myself a pollock! ![]() http://www.seafishingonline.com/copp...e.php?pos=-582 i ended up with a dozen or more pollock then the bottom fishing began to pick up around 10pm ish . and i managed a few more poor cod a couple more pout and a dogfish that wasnt hook but lassooed in my shockleader! then on my last cast of the night i managed to land myself a large whiting ![]() http://www.seafishingonline.com/copp...e.php?pos=-583 so after that i packed up and slowly but surely made it too the car passing a few goats and cotton tails (rabbits) on the way. all in all it was a great night but no sign of the codling __________________ fishing for fish is not as simple as you may think!
