stokes bay

fished with ashley 2230- 0500
choppy and overcast, wind increaseing from the south which is what drove us away from chesil.

high tide was for 0430 and i was tempted to fish this neap at hurst castle but the threat of torrential rain put me off and so we ended up at stokes by the life boat station.

baitwise we had squid / sandeel and froze blk,
on and off all night i was getting small bites to squid n lug cocktails on a 2 hook flappy scratching rig but couldn't connect which was frustrateing , the bigger baits on the pulllys were left be though occasionally stripped.

for me a headache & sore throat set in with a vengence,

nothing interesting untill 0300ish whe ashleys rod blew off its stand twice,
on retrieval he waS either snagged or managed to bump off a good fish for his efforts all he got back was a bare top hook and a 4inch pin on the bottom hook.

1/2 hour or so later i had a good knock & slack line on a pulley rig, it took me a lot of winding to catch up with the rig but whatever it was had gone.

the wind got stronger & the rain wetter, (bivvy still leaks, treated with wetproof wednesday, fishing suit or whats left of it water tight again though )

quit at 0500, with ashley claiming victory, ............by a bloody small margin

Re: stokes bay

Unlucky Gord sounded like a nightmare. I'm threatening to do the long walk out to the castle for a cod session at some point in the season!

Re: stokes bay

Unlucky Gord. Those slack liners really infuriate me. How can a fish grab a bait and drag it and the lead that far without finding a hook??? Grrr. Ah well, fishing and not catching I suppose.
