milford on sea,

i arived late as usual with hartley & keith,
the sea was flat calm and the tide for about 22.30. + the usual big bright moon.
we fished the last of the flood , high water and all the ebb.
met with steve,(scottish & mental) , there were a few other anglers about and bass, and sole had been accounted for already apparently.
bait wize we had some squid & manky mackerel plus sandeels and some bloody huge ragworm blagged from steve, cheerz m8.

things were quite slow with just the occasional random rattle to take us by surprise, the weird fish seem to be drawn to me lately as first for me was a small juvenile gurnard of approx 6 inches & indeterminate species as far as we could tell,
it looked like a gey but had pale blue/grey edges to the pectorals plus an odd marbled blue pattern in the middle of the pectorals that i've not seen b4.

so... help, grey, tub or what??

honours next went to steve with a turbot, a pb i believe. i 'spec he may add the tale later.
meanwhile hartley, who had missed a good bite was getting anxious to avoid the blank again.
shortly afterward i managed to winkle out a small spotted ray and i was greatful for the assist by steve with a tbar, i've not seen them used b4 but will be getting one soon
no more were caught by us 3 till nearly the last cast, when keith wiped hartleys eye by catching his first sea fish that being a butterfly painted ray that had savaged his squid head and guts bait on a 4/0 , god only knows how the ray got his chopperz around that, leaving hartley as token blanker for the 2nd week , i'm sure hell come good with another bass somewhen

Re: milford on sea,

Arrived at the beach bang on 7 pm and hoped for a good couple of hours daylight to hunt for a tubby or other exotic ...

The White Houses looking West as i arrived

but by ten past eight it was dark ..

so chucked some worm baits out and first cast on the lug at close range resulted in this little chap - soon to be followed by another on the very next cast !

then nothing for another couple of hours as the tide started to ebb and the sandeel bait i'd chucked out for a ray produced this lucky Turbot ( lucky because it nearly ended up as my dinner ) .. not the intended species but my target was to improve the species tally so im doubly happy as i still have the rays to come and this was a bonus !

Fished on for a bit and kept getting knocks on the rag - none of which produced a fish and by the time Gordon and the boys packed up my thoughts were once again on a daylight species !

The tide was flooding by now and the weed that had been pretty lenient the hours before began to run through big time and continues to drag by bait due east at a rapid rate of knots..
Only specimen i saw was this old girl walking past me in a bikini before casually strolling into the briney for her daily swim ( i thought i was mental )

All in all not a bad night and it was good to meet up with Gordon for a session

Re: milford on sea,

Maybe they don't get that colourful until they grow up a bit?

Well done on the turbo Steve, lovely fish.

Thanks for the weed info Gord but for some reason I decided Southbourne would be a better bet last night......it wasn't.
